I am starting this thread in the hope people will share ideas of things to do which they enjoy or help take their mind off their problems or just help them feel better. Since becoming stressed & depressed things which I used to enjoy are no longer available, are too hard or no longer fun and I suspect their are others like me who need to do things to feel good again but have trouble thinking of ideas.
Everyone is different so what suits one person won't suit another but each person's ideas will suit someone else.
When you are tired, depressed, stressed or just need a break what do you like to do?
I like to visit a friend who I can trust. We can complain & vent to each other without it being taken out of context or shared with anyone else. Unfortunately she lives 2 hrs away so I can't visit often

Hi Elizabeth,
The way I look at it, there are three aspects of my "health" that I look after - Physical, Mental and Spirit. For physical things, I go to the gym, cycle and engage in activities that keep me fit. It burns off excess energy and allows you to focus on something else. For mental health, I like to read books, learn new things, do puzzles and practise music. For spirit, I like to write, meditate, listen to music and spend time at the beach.
When I do those things, I feel a lot calmer and happier. Finding the things you enjoy is the first step!

Hi and a brilliant, important topic too.
I like to sing and it helps bring out surpressed emotions.
Adult colouring in has been great. Something reasonably new to me but have been enjoying this and found it to be almost addictive as it encourages you to keep going and create.
Watching funny movies or clips and having a good laugh. Great for the mind body and spirit. With my old computer I had an emergency folder ready with clips of my favourite funny scenes from movies. Guaranteed to have me chuckling.
Getting create with boring infomercials. When we cant sleep at night and the tv is flogging yet another excercise machine.......we turn off the sound and do our own voice overs. We both end up in hysterics as we know the add backwards and forwards but we add our own twist to everything. It is a time to be creative, silly, just letting it flow.
Spending time with my grandkids and my pets is a wonderful time to stop and smell the roses.
Even thinking about this and writing it down is a good refresher for me. So, thank you for the chicken soup for the mind. 🙂
