Hi All,
In the past there may have been threads on sleep and how to improve our quality of sleep.
I am starting this thread up and hope to include past thread titles.
For some of us sleep is a real issue, the more we can learn about it the better informed we will be.
Funny stories on weird places you have fallen asleep are welcome as well.
For me, I had just moved house and was very busy getting everything organised. Friends invited me to the drag races. I was so tired and exhausted that I sat down, leant against the fence right near the starting line and fell asleep for most of the evening.
Hope to read some of your stories and tips.
Cheerio for now, from Mrs. Dools

Hi Carla,
Have you thought about maybe getting a sleep study done to see if there's any issues while you sleep? Sometimes things like sleep apnoea, restless leg syndrome etc aren't obvious because they happen when we're sleeping but can result in excessive daytime sleepiness.
Low energy levels are definitely a symptom of depression and anxiety as well though. When I was severely depressed it was a struggle for me to get out of bed every day. I never had the energy for anything.
It can also be a side effect of some medications if you're taking any antidepressants etc.
It's really hard to tell what's a sleep issue and what's a symptom of MI or side effects. That's why I'm glad a gp finally sent me off to get my sleep checked (if you're on benefits etc you get bulk billed too). At least with that diagnosis I now know how to treat it. Without ever knowing what the actual issue is, it makes it hard to know what to do about it.
I hope you find out one way or another soon, I know how terrible it is to be constantly running on fumes all the time! It makes you feel like a zombie!
Kind regards,
Lici

Thanks for your feedback Lici. As I sleep alone I don’t know if I snore or am restless, so I guess the best idea is to talk with my doctor.
if anyone else reading this has had the same experience and can give feedback I’d love to hear it.
thanks again Lici, Cala

I believe anyone who thinks there is a possibility of an issue with sleep to see their doctor to have a sleep study. If nothing is found at least you know not to worry about sleep issues but if something is found & treated it can be life changing. My son has suffered with severe depression for years with multiple hospital admissions loss of his work despite medications & other treatments.
He finally went for a sleep study (something he's put off for several years) He has been diagnosed with sleep apnea & commenced treatment. The tiredness has gone & with it the depression. He is now enjoying doing things he hasn't enjoyed for years.
Obviously you will only know if you have a treatable sleep condition if you have a sleep study but noone deserves to suffer unnecessarily like my son did so I encourage anyone who thinks they might have an issue to get it checked ASAP.

Recently I did a little sleep research and there's some more too for later.
At some point I'll acknowledge where I got this info but haven't got it on me atm. (at the moment)
Count by 3 backwards from 1000. The bloke said guaranteed you won't get to zero.
I'd forgotten it was 1000 and did it from 100 and 500, didn't work but from 1000 reckon it could.
If your mind wanders gently refocus to where you were or start again. Worth a try.

Hi DB,
It has been recommended to me that I do this from 100. I like the idea of 1000 better, might give it a go tonight.
Reminds me a little of when you go under anaesthetic, they usually tell yo to count back from 10. I never recall how far I managed to get before I fall asleep.
After my carpal tunnel operation, I remember coming to and thanking everyone for coming and for helping to make my day so special! The surgical staff must hear some really weird stuff. Ha. Ha.
Cheers to you DB and to All, from Dools

Hi DB,
You are welcome.
This morning at 4.00 a.m. when I couldn't get back to sleep I started to count back from 1000 in 3's. I managed to get to 700 and then my brain started to hurt so I gave up! Ha. Ha.
I then decided to think of all the things I had to be thankful for and fought off any negative thoughts that tried to intrude. Then I decided to get up!
All the best to you DB.
Cheers from Doolsy

Hello Dools , Fred, Deebi, Cala and everyone else..
😁 I started counting backwards from 1000x 3 but because I can't count backwards by more then one at a time got complete mixed up 😂 and persistent in doing it so I then started counting back by 1,for 3 numbers then going back to original number then took the 3 off.....but I couldn't go to sleep until I reached zero, I had to reach zero, Why? I don't know...I just had to see if I could so I started counting back by 5 ....😂..I reached zero wide awake in good humour 🙃😜...and proud of myself for getting to zero..Then I felt like I accomplished something because I made it to zero... I then finally went to sleep while I was naming the different flavours of chocolate 🍫...
Thank you for an interesting and fun night Deebi..💜🌹.
Grandy..
