Morning Ritual

I used to be a morning person. Could just roll out of bed and was chirpy and awake. ever since I revealed trauma I experienced when I was 17 recenmtly (Iam now 32), I am always in a daze. What works for you in the morning? do you have a morning ritual to wake up and say hello to the day ahead? I have great professional and personal supports in place thankfully, but that doesn't help in terms of waking up.

Hello Dear DancingInTheStorm,

Welcome to our forums...

I can relate to struggling with a morning routine..many people with mental health issues find it very hard to even get out of bed..let alone having a morning ritual in place...

Theres a thread here called Depression and our daily routine...maybe by reading some of the thread it might help you how to set up a morning routine that’s beneficial to you..

We are all different and it’s finding something that works for you....

If you feel like it and read some or all of the thread..please come back here and let us know how your doing and if it was helpful for you...you are very welcome to talk their as well...

My kindest thoughts Dear DancingInTheStorm....

Grandy..

First hour of being awake, I drink a coffee, chug 500ml of water and eat something small. I will also pick out some fruit and snacks to eat up until lunch. I also avoid using my phone or laptop within the first hour of walking up.

I try do tactile activities in the first hour that helps with anxiety that I wake up with. Watering my herb garden, going for a walk around the block, doing some light chores or going to the gym.

Dancing the storm,

welcome to the forums. Your name is very evocative.

I have never been a morning person , but for me it is not due to trauma. However I noticed last year after the fires having my life disrupted I did find it even harder to get up and would sleep I if I had no reason to get up.

I suppose I used to write everyday in a journal for ten minutes as soon as I woke up and then have a shower and get dressed. I like hot showers and I always feel better.

You will find something that suits you. Please be kind to y ourself as you are experiencing many changes and it will take time. You may never be as chirpy as you were before but you will find something that works for you.
Grandy and cheese dingo have given you helpful supportive suggestions.
you are not alone and we are listening.
