Mind, body and soul

In moments of distress I use one or more techniques from three sets of three in order to deal with the situation.

 Mind

  • Cognitive behaviour therapy
  • Decision making charts
  • Interpersonal relationship

Body

  • Run
  • Swim
  • Walk

Soul

  • Mindfulness
  • Breathing
  • Subtle change of environment

If the level of distress is too high to get the mind or body techniques to work I'll use one of the soul techniques. As distress reduces I may then be able to pick up on a body or mind technique.

Hi Roberty Bob,

I like this three by three idea of yours! I have some coping strategies, but I have never thought to group them in any way. The main things I do when I am distressed are talk to loved ones, listen to music, read (though this doesn't always work), go for a walk (don't do this one enough), pet my cat, tidy my room (I'm a perfectionist) or even come on this forum to read about other people's concerns.

Thanks for the great post!

Best wishes,

SM

Since its 4:38am I just wanted to thank you for your posts which I always read since I started on the BB Forums recently. Also for your advice on another thread about 'sufferers' and I like you suffer from depression and always will. I just thought I had the right word. I too cant use the word 'victim'

Just saying hi and I always look forward to reading the advice you keep on giving..Its helped me a lot.

dear Paul, I very much appreciate your kind words.
It's funny ( not literally) that every post is different, they have different circumstances which has caused people to be depressed, but there's one issue they all relate back to, and that's depression, no matter what type it can be.
There are times when we reply to someone, but don't feel as though we have hit the exact point we are trying to make, or what we say maybe confusing, because we know what we want to say but it doesn't come across as we wanted it to be. Geoff.
