My husband has PTSD, a young other conditions that they have diagnosed due to being assaulted at work by a colleague (he works in a prison) Work has offered him voluntary medical retirement package with a separation date of the 22 August. He replied by email that it was fine as he wants to move on as we have been dealing with this for nearly 2 years. Does anyone know how long he has to wait for the payment. Its affecting our life sitting here with him in limbo and every day he checks the bank and when nothing shows it sends him on a spiral for the next few hours. Hes unmotivated and feels nobody cares. He thinks if he can get this to come through then he can start looking for more work and do something with his life. We have 3 children and the emotional toll it's taken on them over this time has not been good. I feel like I am playing a juggling game with them all trying to support everyone and work myself and I need him to feel better. Everything to do with this issue has had me behind him trying to get him through as he can't function effectively by himself yet. I am so drained and want this issue over with so I can deal with the next one, one at a time. Waiting is a mind game that causes issues everyday. I know the money wont solve our problems but it would sure take a burden off me and help with all the psych bill's.

Hello Mummabear, thanks for posting your comment and do understand the frustration you and your husband are going through.

I don't have an answer, unfortunately, I'm sorry, but as you've had to wait 2 years already it shouldn't be too far away, as my W/C claim took a bit longer than this.

I wonder whether he has a lawyer who is handling his case.

I know how disappointing it is, not only for your husband but definitely for yourself, but from my experience, I should have had counselling as soon as my W/C was lodged, the money when it arrives will be good, but that's your first hurdle to overcome, there could be others.

Can I suggest you also have some counselling and if you do have a lawyer they will be able to tell you who is responsible for payment of the sessions, if not ask your doctor about the 'mental health plan', this entitles you to 10 free sessions per year.

Sorry I suppose I'm trying to find out some information so we can help you further.

Geoff.

Hi, thanks for any help Geoff. He was on work cover for the first year off, then they stopped it. So is now using his income protection insurance out of his super fund. We have a lawyer who has put in a claim for expenses through a civil case, but have been told that we could be waiting for up to 6 months to even get an offer (if they even offer anything)

When they stopped workcover they assessed him as being 1% permanently impaired and offered $3000 which we declined as he is still going through some stuff and does not compensate us in any way and feels like a slap in the face really.

Just want his work to hurry up the VMR so he can take the next step into recovery. He feels as he is stuck with no headway into the future which is making recovery harder for us all. The guy that assaulted him has already been through court in January and been found guilty so I dont know what the holdup is.

Hes worked all his life and feels like hes being punished for something he had no control over.
