Healthy diet

I have been learning about how a healthy diet helps with anxiety. So I have been making a few changes to my diet. Like fish oil, fruits and nuts too. Has anybody been doing the same thing?

Hi LonelyGirl89

One of our long time members Shelley Ann created a thread that is an excellent reference!

I understand you about having anxiety...its an awful place to be in after having it for a while now...yet its slowly getting better....with frequent counseling from my GP to change my thinking about anxiety 🙂

Just for me I eat a lot of tinned sardines and Tuna.....Salads in summer are excellent and frozen veggies in winter. I limit carbs and eat Rye bread or multigrain...and even on a budget frozen fish portions are nice too

At the risk of sounding boring.....I drink at least 1 liter of water a day to cleanse my body and brain

The link above has about 300 posts of terrific healthy eating tips from many members.......I hope you can find some handy info!

Please let us know what you think.....only if you have the time

my kind thoughts

Paul

It’s not boring at all, my only concern is that you only drink 1 litre, I would feel better after drinking 2 litres, although it’s winter. I Heard on the news that people are being treated for cold temperatures, due to not using the heater, more among elderly people, so stay warm. Thanks for letting me know about the healthy choices threat. I will read it thank you

Hi LonelyGirl89,

Thank you for your post.

Yes, I'm trying to do that too! Some of the other foods that help with anxiety are eggs, dark chocolate, pumpkin seeds, tumeric and yoghurt, which I really like (although not a fish fan!). How have you been finding it so far?

Good so far. How would you use turmeric? And pumpkin seeds? I do love my dark chocolate and eggs

Hey LG

Dark chocolate! yummm..heaps of antioxidants happening there....and eggs...beautiful 🙂

Isnt is strange that in the 1980's eggs were criticized for not being healthy and now the 'experts' have changed their mind and have confirmed that eggs are super healthy!

I hope that Tuesday treats you well

Paul

Hi LonelyGirl89,

With tumeric, mostly curries! It's great in the cooler months because you can add tumeric to so many dishes. I've also sprinkled on tumeric on vegetables and then baked them (like sweet potatoes or carrots), which is pretty tasty.

As for pumpkin seeds, sometimes I can have them raw, other-times I'll sprinkle them on my porridge, or make them up into little energy balls. You can also hide them in things like muffins, biscuits, slices or banana breads too.

This is helpful, and thanks @blondguy for the link to the other thread.

For me I find consistency is important (a consistent healthy diet). Lots of fresh veges, lean meats, low carbs. Experimenting with different dishes can be fun when the time is right.

And as a rule of thumb, avoid the centre of the supermarket. Venture in for some dark chocolate then get the hell away from those muesli bars and chips!!
