Hi Everyone,
Wanting to find some support, guidance etc on the grief of the Ambulance Phone operator making me give CPR to my brother.
Have others given CPR to a dead relative?
how do you get over the trauma of doing so?
it’s the only image I have in my head and cannot get rid of.

Hello Butzy, a sad and very difficult comment to reply to, although my heart pours out for you and understand this is a situation none of us would want to have to go through, the grievance to know it's your brother and the sheer emotion, not only with you but also to the phone operator, desperately trying to explain the procedure while keeping their feelings and emotions to themselves.
This is certainly the time when you need all the support for an injustice you had never expected, my absolute sympathy and all the support I can possibly be able to provide for you, I along with others will do our very best.
It would be lovely if you can get back to us as more will transpire.
My utmost apologies.
Best wishes.
Geoff.

No I haven't given CPR to a relative. I've given it to and older lady in a factory and a stranger whilst on an interstate trip and both survived thankfully.
I think the trauma you have ongoing can be offset by the enormous humility and pride you should be feeling. What a tremendous act of the greatest gift you could give a relative- to attempt to give them a final chance at life.
You have every reason to feel honoured. As a fellow human being...i salute you.

Hi butzy,
No, I have not had to provide CPR to anyone. I have seen it performed on a person in the room though and it can be very confronting when the person does not survive.
My thoughts are with you. From what you have written, I am assuming the Ambulance Phone Operator was trying to provide you with the best support they could at the time to help you to try resuscitate your brother. This must have been very distressing for you.
It may help you to telephone the Grief Counselling service. I don't have their number, you could find it through Google. I'm not sure if it is possible to phone the Ambulance service and see if they have a person you can talk with about your experience.
Hopefully you can find some support and understanding to help you deal with this trauma.
Kind regards from Dools
