acute trauma

hi, not sure if this is the correct title to use. I have experienced a very traumatic event recently and i am trying to look after myself. i am a very strong person and have been through a lot of stress during my life. My son fell 15 metres and as sustained multiple injuries including a brain injury. He was in a coma at the scene, then put in an induced coma in intensive care. outlook was grim. He is progressing really well. The outcome is positive but i feel that because of my previous life experiences and other trauma in my life i am struggling to be positive. People say how great it is, a miracle. It is a miracle, but there is a lot of practical stuff i have to deal with and it is life changing for him and me. I am scared. I feel a bit numb.

Hi and welcome to our caring community Dolma;

What a dreadful place to be in, I'm so sorry. It must be devastating for you to face this situation. I hope you have family/friends to support you.

Firstly, posting on here takes courage so well done; you've come to the right place. It's a non judgemental and safe forum to vent your internal voice and meet people who truly care. We know trauma and its symptoms, so feel secure knowing you're heard, acknowledged and validated ok.

Writing on here is great therapy. Speaking of which, do you have a psychologist or counsellor to visit? Your GP will no doubt listen and attend to any medication that might fit your situation as well as refer you to someone for advice and encouragement. So please don't discount their role at this time.

There's also Lifeline 131114 or BeyondBlue 1300224636 for real time talks instead of waiting for a response on here if it's urgent.

Please write as much as you like. Get it out of your system and purge that pain.

I'm here for you as are other amazing people.

Kind thoughts;

Sez

Hello Dolma, a warm welcome to you.

My thoughts are with you and I feel very sorry for the both of you because I've also sustained a brain injury with a clot on the brain, so I know what he is struggling with, just as I feel for you and realise how concerned you must be.

Please come back and ask me anything you want to, I'd be more than happy to answer any concerns and/or the many questions that are circling your mind.

My best wishes.

Geoff.
