This bipolar life

Are your moods are like an elevator with no control buttons? Mine are.

Ground floor ... I feel normal, content, just quietly getting on with ordinary, everyday life, loving my family and friends. This is as it should be. And maybe there's nothing wrong with me after all. Live.

Going up, top floor. Oh look! There's a shiny thing! I want to sing! Let's go buy stuff! Let's have a big party and invite the world! What could possibly go wrong! Woooooo hoooooooo! Play.

Going up (a different day) top floor. What do you mean you don't agree with me! I'm right! Why don't you think like me? Keep up! How can you be so illogical? I'll f-ing shred you if you don't do what I want! Rage.

Going down, lower ground floor. Flat, listless, can't be bothered. Can still function but it's a drag. Cope

Going down, basement. I'm never getting out of bed again. I'm useless, worthless. Total idiot, how could I ever imagine I could do anything, nothing ever goes right because I'm wrong. I'm a burden to everyone. Hide.

Welcome to my bipolar world. It's always been my world, but it's only recently I've seen it for what it is. About 15 years ago I was diagnosed with clinical depression during one of my 'basement' times. I had a lot of lower ground floor times too, on and off, and I kept out of the basement (so I thought) with alcohol. Until that took me into the blackest ever basement with only one obvious way out. Having survived doing something very dangerous I realised I had to stop drinking or I really would die.

I never took much notice of the playful times or the anger, that was just me, I was fun sometimes, and sometimes I was a devastating bitch. Ha! Deal with it people!

Well, yes, but in time the elevator started going up and down too quickly and, as I became more aware and more knowledgeable about mental health I realised this wasn't good. Doctor. Diagnosis. Bipolar 2. Lithium.

So, I've started this thread in the hope that other bipolar folks will join me, to share experiences and strategies. In my 'beginners' understanding, we are different from other fellow travellers of the back dog. While we experience depression as many others on this site do, the hypomanic or manic ups and, for some the rapid cycling that can happen, are experiences unto themselves.

I want to learn more, and I want to share with others. I hope my fellow elevators will join me here.
BTW, it's a ground floor day in my head today! Yay!

Love

Hey, I am feeling a bit off. It could be as it's ANZAC Day and I think too much about others. I think of sacrifices. I think of my Dad and his Veteran Mates. I've seen him on ANZAC Day and it is solem.

Velvet, as a modern society we aren't used to doing without. Doing without our freedom. We have lots of First World Problems. Oh diddums; the Internet is down, you have to walk to the shops etc etc.

I must admit I have complained about my child's appointment to get braces. Child is scheduled to get to get them this Wednesday. It would be okay if it was traditional braces. They aren't. They took a mould of child's mouth and have then put the braces on the mould. We were scheduled to get them on this Wednesday. Child's mouth is rapidly changing. We might have to re do all of the preperation appointment's if we wait too long.

Just a quiet day here. Partner has been cleaning getting ready for the move next week. Am feeling better today not as nauseous. I went to the doctor on Saturday and she said it could be the AD. I have felt really off. Just sitting on the couch with partner watching the footy. How have others spent the day?

Hi everyone

Lisa I felt exhausted but felt guilty I was in pjs at 9am that I started doing organising, laundry, spring cleaning , shopping walking there and back, vacuuming etc Partner has been out and is still out since 7am volunteering for a service club making food for Anzac Day. I know when he comes back he will assume I can’t possibly be as tired as him.

so thats my day .
hope everyone is ok. Hope they work out why you feel so off.

Walk. Housework. Couch. Convo.

Digesting the possible events forthcoming this week and the things I have happening that will maybe go balls up.

Might walk again this arvo. It's lovely outside.

Quirky it sounds like you've had a busy day

V do you go back to work this week?

Hello everyone,

What do others do when they feel exhausted. Any ideas?

For me being very tired is a sign I need to rest or it may affect my health.

I wish I stopped before I am too tired but I find it hard not to keep busy . Anyone else.?

Lisa... in theory I go back to work Tuesday.

I watch TV quirky..but I get very restless and end up doing house chores and things. You sound like me in that regard.

Quirky, when I’m tired I’m blame my meds. I generally have a nap, spend a few hours in bed. My psych says that’s a double edged sword. I went to the supermarket about 10:30. Waited in car thinking it would open at 11:00 only to be told it openned at 1:00 . Went for a ride. Rather chuffed that I’m getting my walks ride done around 1 ish. I celebrated with twisties and bullets. Evert Tom, Dick and Harry was at the supermarket in the arvo. I have never seen it so busy. Tomorrow is another day.

Did you go for Another walk V .it was coolish here but I persevered. My hip is not happy.
