Hi,
theres a bunch of reasons why I have to re home my two beautiful dogs. I’m moving interstate for work and can’t take them (they’re old and wouldn’t travel well plus inner city apartment living wouldn’t be fair for them).
I’ve had them for 9 and 8 years and even though I know logically the decision I’ve made is in their best interests, I can’t help but feel overwhelming guilty.
A rescue group has helped me to find a suitable new home for them (so they could do all of the proper checks etc that I probably wouldn’t be able to do as well) and they’ve found an amazing family for them. I have to meet at a park next weekend to hand them over.
i feel like I’m letting them down. I feel like a terrible human - they have loved me so much and the last thing I’m doing is giving them up.
Not really sure how to get through this pain.

Hello DogLover666
Welcome even in this painful situation you are going through
For you to post here about your two beautiful woofers means a lot as I am still involved in dog rescue
Can I ask what their names are ?

Dear Doglover,
Welcome to Beyond Blue and well done for reaching out.
I too had to rehome a dog I had, many years ago, and I felt that same guilt that you describe. I felt I was letting her down terribly. It had never been my intention to have a dog for a short time - we only had her for 18 months. But same reasons applied for us; we were renters, and moving to a place that wouldn't allow pets. She was a German Shepherd, and her name was Sam. I still have photos of her, thank God, and I have never forgotten her. She will be forever in my heart.
Just allow yourself to grieve the loss. It's okay to be sad when things don't go as we had originally planned. And remember, you are doing what is right for them; giving them the space and environment that they need, instead of selfishly keeping them 'locked up' in a small space where they would become bored and destructive. What you are doing, therefore, is actually the right thing for all of you.
Having said all that, I know it's hard and sad. but you must remember; you are doing the right thing.
Be gentle with yourself, and take lots of photos of them! Fur babies will be forever in your heart, even though they will be living elsewhere.
Take care. I'll be thinking of you. (((hugs)))

Thanks Paul,
Their names are Cooper and Leroy. Cooper is a pure bred Beagle, cheeky, lovable but also a bit naughty. Leroy is a Pugalier and he's super sweet and affectionate.
I really appreciate people who work in rescues. The ladies who have helped me with this situation have been amazing and accomodating. They've tried as much as they can to make me feel less guilty about this and comfortable that I'm making the right decision.

Hello Doglover..
I hope your okay..I just wanted to say how deeply sorry that this is happening to you and your beautiful dogs..
I am wondering if it’s possible to friend the new fur parents on fb...Maybe keeping in contact with the new owners will help you ease your mind a little...maybe they could send you some pictures of Cooper and Leroy every so often as well....I just wanted to call in here and with this suggestion..I done that when I gave my fur mothers puppies away..3 years ago and I still get to see them through fb..it helped ease my mind...
My care love and hugs..🦋💜🤗.
Grandy..
