Tunnel vision

So I saw my psychologist this morning and he pointed out I have tunnel vision. For example I'm convinced I need to go to a health retreat, lose 30kg get married and have kids. I'm convinced I need a uni degree so I earn enough so I can get married and have kids. Uhhhh how do you fix that?

My psychiatrist told me there's more to life than Marriage and kids and it's totally blown my mind.

help please....

Hi Debzmite,

It sounds like your psychologist's comments have surprised you a bit.

I think it's important maybe to take a step back and consider that your psychologist is there as a guide. They have a lot of knowledge and a lot of experience with other people, but they don't have experience being you. So while they might be right, a lot of it comes down to how you interpret what they say, and what makes sense to you.

Do you agree with your psychologist's statements? If so, it'd be good to ask yourself whether you want to change and why.

At the same time, perhaps it's a good idea to ask yourself why you need to do these things. We can often make assumptions and rather than changing them because someone else said so, perhaps we need to convince ourselves first that we do want to change them and the reasons why.

Hello Debzmite

How bad do you want to achieve the things you have spoken about?Your post is more about you than your psychologist. Things don't happen through "will"without the willingness to make an effort. Small committed steps in the right direction will get you to your destination. Set yourself some realistic goals first and seek support from family or friends. Once you get momentum and self belief you can achieve anything. Good luck 🙂
