Coming into september I have been feeling low about my upcoming birthday, along with uni assignment stress and trying to balance other personal stressors. I feel like I have been in 'survival mode' for so long. Some days when I don't have a commitment, its hard to get out of bed and get motivated to work on my assignments. The other day I saw someone from the past which triggered some pain and loss emotions, unexpectedly. At this stage, I'm trying to take each day at a time and I'm hoping that these feelings will pass and that joy is around the corner.

Hello Dear Sunflower23….
I love your forum name so much…Sunflowers are such a beautiful flower that feeds our gorgeous wild birds…
I am so sorry that your struggling with feeling low…
I would love to wish you a very Happy Birthday Sunflower…with all the good wishes I have to give….🎂🍭🍷….
I’m sorry you were triggered into feeling pain and loss emotions from past events…it’s hard sometimes to get out of our head when that happens….I try to sing along with songs I know to get my mind thinking of something else…our minds as complexed as they are can only think of one thing at a time…distraction is such a good coping tool…. it doesn’t work for long…but long enough to give our thoughts a break which help our emotions have a little rest….every little thing helps us on our road to recovery….
I can relate to you finding it hard to get out of bed when you don’t need to go anywhere…I feel similar…I volunteer 3 days a week at a charity shop…the other 4 days is usually spent in bed or laying on my lounge playing computer games….my motivation to do anything on those 4 days in non existent….I live alone…(well not quite alone..I have 3 beautiful dogs)…. on those days I’m home….I am at a loss as to what to do….I know when my friend rings me and I sometimes go out with her I feel better…..Is there someone that you can do your assignment with?…or go out for a coffee or walk with….most times just being with someone lifts our spirits enough to do things we need or want to do…
I do know that things are constantly moving and changing…..that’s why, we must never give up on our hope that things will improve and/or change in our lives….and that joy/happiness can be just around the next corner….
Just would like to ask you…if that’s okay…no need to answer if you don’t want to….Have you reached out to your Dr or your uni counsellor about how you’re feeling?…if not is it something that you might consider doing?….
Thinking of you with kind and caring thoughts….and I hope when your birthday arrives that you have a happy day with family and friends…
Grandy..

Hi Grandy,
Thank you for your response! Hearing your lovely words has made me feel a bit better.🌻
Thank you also, for sharing your experiences with me and your birthday wishes.
In regards to counselling, I tried to make an appointment but haven't scheduled yet. My usual counsellor is away and won't be back for another 2 weeks. I'm hoping to make an appointment soon.
