I am currently a student of age where parents are relevant. My issue may be trivial however, I am currently struggling to talk to my parents regarding mental health. I have already prompted the issue indirectly and my parents do believe I have mental health issues. They are also willing to provide me support. However, despite their openness and acceptance, I am having trouble discussing the results of an online test to them. I am worried for no logical reason and do really want to tell them. However, I am not able to work up the courage. By the way, the online test (by Blackdog institute) gave results which showed severe depression and severe anxiety. Please provide any advice you find relevant.

Hi, welcome
Firstly well done that you are facing your mental health so bravely.
All such tests can be a good indicator but are not meant to replace proper medical treatment. So take knowledge from it by all means but little else.
Currently you have the support of your parents so what if the utmost importance is to take advantage of same and seek a GP visit with the intention of referral to a mental health professional. You are likely qualify for 10 free visits.
I don’t see a need to inform your parents about an online test result, let the professionals do the talking.
By the way, obtaining a mental health diagnosis isn’t all doom and gloom. Subsequent treatment can lead to a better life in every way, can fill in the questions on why you are creative, artistic or maybe good at poetry or acting. Some of us wouldn’t have it any other way because... it is part of ourselves

Hi ABCDefgHIJ,
I know how you feel - when I was going through my mental health issues I was hesitant at first to tell my parents, however I am so glad I told them when I did. Acknowledging the issue is the first big step forward, and getting help is the second step. I promise you that you'll feel a whole lot better once you start on the road to recovery 🙂
