Hi,
I have suffered from depression for many years. I am now in my seventies and it seems to be getting worse. That Is I believe is from the time I have on my hands. Some days I am unable to get out of bed. My wife leaves me alone to navigate through this. I play guitar but even that feels like a struggle to pick it up. My personnel hygiene suffers for having a shower can be too much for me to do regularly. There seems no end to this in my thought pattern. If anyone can recognise these symptoms I would love to hear from you.

Hi roga,
Thanks for posting and welcome to the forums. It's great that you've reached out here and joined the community. May I ask how long you've experienced depression for? I've not often met people in there 70's with experience of depression so would be great to hear a bit of your story.
I'm sorry that you've been struggling with motivation and that you feel like things are getting worse. I know with depression that symptoms can often peak for seemingly no reason. I know recently I've been lacking in motivation as well especially with exercise and day to day chores. Sometimes this can be due to other things happening in our life that we did not originally consider e.g. work, finances, relationship loss etc.
For me, I find it best to talk through my symptoms with my psychologist and try to identify whether there may be something contributing to it. And if not, whether there is something I can do in my recovery to help me along. Do you think there is anything else going in your life that may be contributing to your lack of motivation? Regardless I think it would be good to have a face to face chat with someone like a friend or psychologist if you have one. I always feel a bit stronger and motivated afterward. Would love to hear back from you.
Bob
