Getting worse.....

Hi,

i suffer from health anxiety even when I have been to the Dr and she advised all is good. I just cannot get it out of my mind that I am dying. I have been suffering this on and off over the last 27 years! My anxiety then developts into depression and I am struggling going to work every day. I stuggle every morning getting out of bed and cry most of the time. I am on AD and think they are working a little. I have the support of my beautiful Mum and husband but feel like I cannot continue To trouble them all the time. I just feel so unloved at the moment and want to be my happy little self again. Thanks for listerning.

Anntug, your words resienate with me quite loudly. I am forever thinking that something is wrong with me and i am on my way out. I know of many others who are like this so you are not alone, that is for sure.

Even though you have been to the GP and are on AD's, have you discussed this problem with the GP? Have you ever had psych work done on this?

With the many sessions I have had with the clinician's, I worked on this and are now able to control them. It takes some practice but I want you to know that you can overcome them.

Mark.

I haven't endured the severity of the anxiety you are describing, but might be able to relate to your depressive symptoms. It sounds like you have two wonderful people around you, who love and care for you.

I would ask the same question as Mark, and wondering if you had any psychotherapy to investigate both your anxiety and depression. Also, how long have you been on anti-depressants for? In my experience, the SSRI needed a few months in order to "kick-in", and yes, there were some (mild in my case) side-effects.

Are you mother and husband properly informed about anxiety/depression (i.e., beyondblue website, etc.)? You're not a alone, even though it may feel like.

hello Anntug, it is great to hear that you have the support of your mum as well as your husband, and I'm sure they would only be wishing for you to get better, you need their support, but more so they want to help you.
If your doctor has prescribed you your AD's then she has to realise that your health will go up and down, so can I ask you to google 'intrusive thoughts', as these are related to anxiety, and with this comes depression.
Is it possible to try another doctor, if you aren't too happy with your current doctor. Geoff.

Hi Mark,

Tha k you for your response. I have discussed this issue with my GP and often tell her what tests I want...... even though she thinks I don't need them she does them to ease my mind. I have tried counselling sessions with a few people but it has not helped me. I am currently learning Meditation which I am sure will help me.

thank you for being there x

Hi Jimny

Thanks for replying to my post, it certainly helps me get through the tough times. Yeah tried to discuss with councillors but cannot seem to get to the core of the problem. Only been on AD for three weeks so yeah probably need time to kick in! Thanks for the idea of passing on some info for my Mum and husband to read I will certainly do that. Thanks for being there x

Anntug, sounds like you have a supportive GP which is a good thing.

With the meditation, what type are you doing?

I practice mindfulness quite a bit, probably should do it more and have found that it has been really helpful.

There are some really good apps to help out with this also.

Hi Anntug,

Hang in there with the ADs for a bit, your psychiatrist/GP will likely adjust dosage or type if results don't come within 1-2 months.

During the beginning of my meds I found it helpful to keep a journal/diary (mood, how your feeling, upset stomach, insomonia, what is upsetting you, etc.). This may also help if you happen to switch the med and try a new variety in the future, and then you can look back on your symptoms you experience with other drugs. I have been a quite lazy lately about keeping a mood diary, but I really should get back to it because it has been helpful in the past.

Love to hear how the AD's are working as you move through this time.

All the best, Jimny

Hi Mark,

i am currently doing a work work shop for IMagery Meditation. I strongly believe it will be good for me however it's bloody hard try to focus, but they say it all comes together in time.

I am going to be having a couple of one on one sessions which I'm looking forward too.

i will keep you posted. X
