I'm trying to finally get on top of my depression and have recently been back to my doctor to change my meds and she said I should start going to a psychologist again, but I don't know who to go to, as i've only gone to talk to someone back in my home town and now that I live in the city (Melbourne) I don't know where to start. Been looking online but it's so hard to know if someone is actually good from their bio's alone, and my doctor didn't know of any that weren't booked out for months. Just trying to find someone good because I've had bad runs with psychs in the past and I know that it really takes a lot out of me to actually talk to someone, like I seem to have a major setback in my illness for a few days afterwards so I don't want to go through that with someone who may not be good

Hello Darce, you have asked a question alongside so many other people have asked, but to you, it's more important and rightly so.
It's so difficult to find a psychologist that we consider to be 'the one' to listen, understand what has happened and how we could be struggling and especially being available now, hen we need them.
Looks or how many titles they have next to their name doesn't guarantee the perfect psychologist or even what people say because they may suit person A, but not their close friend.
If you copy and paste this in your search browser it may help 'telehealth psychology bulk bill australia'.
Best wishes.
Geoff.

I was a bit like you before I had my first ever psychologist appointment on the 9th but you know what I did a few weeks beforehand I was like well I’ll just pick one and give them a decent go & if they don’t work out well I’ll then start a list of psychologists who don’t work out then try another one & so fourth until I find out one I click with. I actually walked out after my first appointment thinking I think I click with the first one I picked and yes it’s early days so I’ll see how it goes. She’s not the psychologist my gp referred me to as I called that psychologist to make a appointment but the receptionist told me she was not taking on new clients. Then I remembered when I joined beyond blue I explored the site and found a section were you can find all different kind of psychs they recommend so that’s were I found the one I’m seeing currently see. Following that call I called the practice were my gp is and explained to the receptionist I spoke to about what happened and that if she could pass on to my gp that I’d need a referral to the psychologist I’d found myself.
