Coming off medication

Recently and under strict guidance from my doctors I have stopped taking medication for bipolar disorder management. Unfortunately I don’t know anybody in my life that has gone through something similar and I have no one to relate to regarding this. Has anyone else gone through this? Did you feel any differently? What were some strategies to help with avoiding relapse? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi airymoods

I am going through a medication reduction at the moment but not for bipolar. My meds are for depression & PTSD. I’ve been on my combination of meds for about 15 years & my life has improved greatly. One of my meds is usually only prescribed for schizophrenia or bipolar. When my doctor put me on it he just used to fib & say I have schizophrenia. But now as he approaches retirement age his conscience has gotten the better of him, so now I have to pay at the chemist. So instead of costing $6.80 every second month it’s now $80-$90. My husband & I are only on the pension & with a large rent increase I really can’t afford to pay this amount for the meds. I’ve reduced it slightly. So far so good. I actually feel a little more alert. I don’t know if that’s good or not lol!

I hope all keeps going well for you. I’ll check back soon.

cheers for now, T.
