Hi. Im Phill, 63yo. Diagnosed with depression and anxiety 17yrs ago.

I am having trouble finding suitable work. I am registered with centerink and one of their employment services.

2 of the criteria for my work are required to do 15hrs a week and no customer service.

Last week I was sent to train for a job that is 20 to 38hrs a week and is 100% customer service. I did the first four days and then had a panic attack on Friday. I cant go back there, I just cant.

my employment provider said "try again on Monday".

what happens if I refuse to go back

Hello Phil..

Im the same age as you..a last year the same happened to me..I spoke to my psychiatrist who gave me a medical certificate for three months...Is it possible for you to speak to your psychiatrist I’d you have one..if you don’t have one..is it possible to speak to your gp and let him/her know what’s been happening and how your feeling...Maybe your gp could write out a medical certificate for you...

I’m not sure what happens when you just turn up for work that your provider has set up for you..

Not sure if I helped at all..just wanted to let you know what I did..When I was in a similar situation as you’re in now..

Kind thoughts..with some caring hugs...🤗🤗

Grandy..

I had similar problems with the employment provider centrelink sent me to and managed to get transferred to a disability focused provider instead who have been much more considerate of my mental health. If you're not with a disability provider you can try contact the disability services department at centrelink and see if there's one in your area you can deal with instead. if it was a disability provider that treated you like this i would contact centrelink and report them.
