Hi…I’m new here. I suffer from an extensive chronic illness which I’ve had for a very long time. I can’t work and I don’t go far from home…I have really bad social anxiety. I’m just not coping I live in the outback so access to medical treatment is impossible. I find it so hard trying to reach out for help/support and I’m finding everything is just to hard in life.
My family and partner don’t understand what I am going through with my anxiety and depression and I’ve tried talking to them but I get nowhere…why is everything in life so hard! Thanks

Hi welcome to the forums.
I'm sorry to hear that you're having such a hard time. Well done for coming onto the forum. I hope you get lots of replies and this helps you.
Being in country Australia would make it difficult to meet up with people. The Internet is probably a good place to look. I'm currently going through a divorce and needed some support. I found an online Internet group for men. They meet through zoom once a week and this has been very helpful to me. It took a little bit of courage to go to the 1st meeting but it got easier as time went by. I found it good has I get to see what other people are going through and this makes me feel less isolated. The people are very supportive and I'm starting to get a sense of community.
I'm wondering if there is something online that you could possibly join and get the benefit of. Your social anxiety may make initially difficult to do zoom style meetings as they are done in real time. The site that I use has a moderator and a set of rules so it's not just a free for all. It's a safe place where people can discuss their problems.

Hey! I'm chronically ill, can't work, and live in isolation too, and I just want you to know how you feel is totally valid.
It can be incredibly hard, from trying to get support, to living with the illness, to socializing, to even just daily life. Its a lot of things for one person to go through and I really wish there was more support for people like us who have to make tough choices everyday to get by.
I would also suggest trying to find online groups if you can, though I know thats harder said than done. I think Facebook is the best place for that, but if your like me, and dont use Facebook its a bit trickier. Its also hard when you have anxiety, I have anxiety too, and with the illness too, it makes it tough to meet new people, even online.
Also should suggest there are over-the-phone counseling services such as Beyond Blue (which Im sure you know), Rural Health Connect (you need a mental health plan for them but they have over-the-phone bulkbill therapy), and Lifeline (even just for a chat). And a few health lines such as Pain Link Helpline and Musculoskeletal Australia Helpline if theyre helpful. You can even use Health Direct if your worried about a health issue and need advice. And many places have Community Transport which offer cheap transport in many towns for disabled, poor and elderly people.
Apart from that I admit there is limited help for us chronically ill folk. Unless you have NDIS it can be very tough trying to get by and your tough and resilient to be doing so anyway. I struggle a lot too with how lonely and tough it is. I hope deeply there will be better supports for disabled and isolated people in future. Its very hard.
