I feel terribly restless, can't concentrate on anything most of the time, come across excessive mood swings, and too much of impulsiveness as well... can this be cured.. and what kind of mental disorder is it.. Am I Borderline -- emotionally unstable personality disorder or bipolar or just suffering from ADD sometimes I'm super happy and sometimes I'm super sad.. I want to win as well as lose... I'm kind of really confused.. can you suggest me something... some days I feel irritable and easily get angry and on other days I feel suicidal and self harm whereas other times I've great future plans full of enthusiasm. Then suddenly a fear of losing everything or being bankrupt or being thrown out from my home and job starts appearing in my mind and I get terrified. I' m so very scared and frustrated that I can't even explain. I' m terribly sad, scared, hopeless yet hopeful and ready to face the challenges too. what should I do? I can't even afford a good psychologist here -- the place I'm. please help me somebody.. please suggest me something that works..

Hi there W or maybe I’ll make it sound like:  We I RDO (so we and I are having a Rostered Day Off) – in fact from hereonin, I shall refer to you as RDO)

So let me start again.

Dear RDO

Welcome to Beyond Blue and thank you so much for posting – and wowee, that’s quite a list of items you’ve expressed.

Just from my first read of it, it seems likely that you’ve got some Bipolar illness occurring there.  But could well be other things as well, but that’s just how I’ve perceived it first up.

When you say you get into these moods or have these feelings – are they a lengthy period of time that they last – so when you have a mood swing, say to be super happy;  can you put a time-frame for how long it lasts, and then like-wise on the rebound session of super sad, is that of an equal length of time – longer, shorter?

Well done though on being able to hold down a job through this illness that you have – I imagine that must be at times, extremely difficult for you.

I am really pleased that you’ve come here and provided this post – you will receive a number of responses from wonderful people on this site and hopefully between a few of us, we’ll be able to provide you with some advice, guidance and support for you – and we’ll do that for as long as you’d like.

On this site as well, there is a place where you can search for GP’s that Beyond Blue have listed.  The thing with these GP’s is that they are all very capable to help out patients who display mental health issues.  And then from that, they will be able to guide you to the most appropriate psychologist who they’d deem to be suitable for you;  plus or minus, the possibility of medication for you.  There should be a waiver of some of the fee due to medicare taking care of some of it – but others may be better informed on this side of things, but I really do think that you getting to a GP is very important.

Kind regards

Neil

Hello Neil,

thanks for your reply. as you asked how long the high and low feeling continues. I feel low most of the time and in between I feel high for a while. say I'll be sad for 3 days then I'll be happy for one day. this goes on like this for some weeks and then suddenly I feel okay and everything becomes neutral for a while say 3-4 days.

Hello RDO (just following Neil's lead)

You are obviously anxious about yourself so I would suggest that the best way of getting a proper answer is to see your GP ASAP.  At BB we can offer support and all sorts of advice but we cannot diagnose someone's illness and I think it is dangerous to try.

As Neil has said, there is list of GPs at the top of this page under The Facts or Resources.  These doctors have a good knowledge of mental illness and can help with a diagnosis or refer you to an appropriate doctor.  Rather than try to self-diagnose and stress yourself silly, go to a doctor.  Then you will know, one way or another.

I understand that it may be an unacceptable fact that you have a certain illness, but it may be that that you are depressed or anxious.  I certainly don't know.  The symptoms you describe could apply to many illnesses.  The least probable is that you are mad.  Depression does not mean you cannot have mood swings or be happy for a short time.  So I would urge you to get checked out and go from there.

Please continue to write in here.  I am keen you know how you go.

Regards
