I watch quite a few foreign language movies, but not many of them are in Spanish. One that I did think was really good though was Amores Perros.

Hi how was Amores Perros? The director also made Babel, another film i'd like to see

Amores Perros has three separate stories that are connected connected through the same car crash, each story involving failed love. I really liked the way each thread of the film was woven together, and some of the characters and scenarios really sucked me in. A word of warning though - it's pretty brutal in places.

thanks for the heads up

it sounds good and bold

i like south american films, like pedro almodovar, but they're also extremely dark

hard to concentrate at the moment on anything too heavy but it can be fulfiling to watch something so masterful and artsy

thanks for explaining

sorry i meant pedro almodovar's films are very dark not all south american films...

pedro almodovar had a recent beautiful film "pain and glory" - semi autobiographical, and he's also had some great ones with Penolope Cruz, Volver and All About My Mother. They are dark but amazing characterisation and story - I really love his movies.

Hi all,

How's the streaming?

I'm continuing to watch BloodLine on Netflix. It's not my favourite, but it's okay, and Ben Mendelsohn and Sam Shepard and phenomenal in it.

There's a few new good things on Netflix - there's a new film with Charlize Thereon called The Old Guard (no 1 in Aus atm) and a fun rom com called Desperados... although lately I just feel like watching stuff that is light and bingeable - like tv shows, so haven't watched either yet

Hi Sleepy,

Maybe I'll try Desperados. I've just binge watched Hanna (Amazon Prime) , and have started on a couple of shows on Netflix that I'm not even sure I like. Why am I watching them? I don't know, I guess to see if they get any better. Sweet Magnolias is one, another is Dead To Me.

Oh I also started on Dolly Parton's Heartstrings, I'm a fan of Dolly's music. I've only watched the first episode so far but it isn't too bad.

I seem to switch between reading a lot of books, to watching a lot of tv shows.

Guess there isn't too much else to do in Melbourne atm as we are back in lockdown for another 6 weeks and the weather isn't too flash!

I have tried to watch Sweet Magnolias... it's meant to be good but I felt a bit disoriented in the first episode... I couldn't follow what was happening. Might take a few eps?

I only watched the 3rd episode last night and new people popped up out of nowhere and it seemed as though you should already know who they are.....I'm not sure about it. I might watch one more and see if it improves but at the moment I couldn't really recommend it.

not sure either if it's good or not... couldn't follow it all all the characters!
Do you like Dead to Me?
It wasn't the best but I liked the heart behind it. Some good acting and moments.
