Hi All,
I hope everyone is staying safe and well during this hectic time. Since it looks like a fair number of us are due for some extended time inside, I thought I might poke around Netflix and see what was available that I might recommend. I think this would be a great place to talk about films, especially our favorites to watch when home sick or our go-to rewatchables. The ones below are all available on Australian Netflix as of the time of posting. I did my best to avoid anything too heavy/serious/related to sickness!
Action & Adventure:
Princess Mononoke (1997): Gorgeously animated environmentalist fairytale with great English-language voice acting
John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum (2019): incredibly stylish, hyper-violent third entry in the hitman series starring Keanu Reeves
The Matrix (1999): mind-bending story about a society run as a computer simulation
Jurassic Park (1993): Feel-good but thrilling classic about a theme park where dinosaurs are brought back to life
Baby Driver (2017): heist movie about a getaway driver with a great soundtrack
Kids & Family
Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade (1989): Excellent adventure about the search for the Holy Grail with Harrison Ford and Sean Connery
The Iron Giant (1999): Touching animated movie about a boy’s relationship with a robot
Shrek/Shrek 2 (2001/2004): Funny animated send-up of fairytales enjoyable for adults as well
Matilda (1996): Danny DeVito’s adaptation of the Roald Dahl story of a precocious girl and the unimpressive adults in her life
Hairspray (2007): campy adaptation of the John Waters original about an aspiring singer in 1960s Baltimore

Also, The Nice Guys. Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. From the write/director of Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang (which is also great, and might appeal if you liked Logan Lucky).
Anyone looking for some feel good films, try Hunt for the Wilderpeople and both Paddington movies.

Hey lazlo - great suggestions, I've seen all except for Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, which I'll seek out!
Thank you....
I don't think I've ever watched a Bond film, I just realised... Enjoy Smallwolf

How was the bond movie? I think Daniel Craig is great actor, does he always play Bond now or do they get new ones?
I like chick flicks, rom coms, independent movies, comedies and drama.
I can't even think of one example lol.
I don't mind classic chick flicks like "From 13 to 30" or "The Wedding Singer"
Keving Smith movies
Coen brothers movies
The Safdie Brothers movie "uncut gems"
I'm watching a TV series called Fleabag at the moment as well.
Do you know any of these ones?

Lazlo, great rec's! It's funny you mention Burn After Reading (one of my favorites) because I just watched another Coen brothers comedy, Hail, Caesar! that I never got around to seeing (for some reason I had heard it was bad). Of course it was hilarious, another fairly light movie but also kind of a mixture of BAR, Barton Fink, and A Serious Man.
Sleepy, I think Craig has been bond in the last 4 or so and this one that's meant to come out later in the year will be his last. I think he makes a great bond, but Casino Royale was the only new one I've really liked. The older ones are much sillier and cheesier (for example Moonraker about fighting nazis on the moon lol). Also as a fun fact, Suddenly 30 was called 13 Going on 30 in the US– I wonder if that expression is only used in America?
I haven't seen Fleabag because my girlfriend who loves it told me it would make me too sad lol, but apparently it's amazing.

Hi Gems!
I was confused about the name of that romcom - that explains it. I think I've heard both names
"13 going on 30" and "suddenly 30." So the Australians probably related more to "Suddenly 30" I guess.
I laughed at your girlfriend warning you to maybe not go down the path of Fleabag - it's totally true!! It doesn't make me too sad but it's not an uplifting show. I laugh, but I also cry lol. It's got its darker moments.
Thanks for all the great movie recommendations and tips!

Hi there gems,
I recently re watched a favourite movie of mine, its definitely in my top 5. Its called 'Perfume -The Story of a Murderer'.
Gosh this movie is so good. A little different than your average film but so very interesting. Its set in 18th century France and tell the story of a perfumer who is obsessed with capturing an elusive aroma; the scent of young womanhood. Excellent movie in my humble opinion.
Happy viewing everyone 🙂
