I have had an ongoing fascination with analysing personality, and what makes myself and others tick, and have found the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator to be a surprisingly accurate measure of such things. I have catalogued the types of many of the people in my life, and probably driven them nuts with my project. It's an interesting study, though, observing consistent traits among the types, how they relate to life skills, coping strategies, how they function in different settings and why.
If you know your type, feel free to share, and things you may have discovered about yourself or that have helped you relate to others using resources about it. If you don't know your type, and want to, I found the site 16 Personalities pretty good for testing and dissecting the types.
If it's of any interest, I am an INTP, and the information about my type on that site is pretty spot-on. I've only used that as a starting point for my research. There is so much information out there on the types, and the differences between them that actually goes a long way to breaking down the core of otherwise confusing conflicts, or getting the most out of a person at work or in a friendship, etc.
Anyway, it's a bit of a project of mine, and I wanted to open it up to anyone who wants to contribute.

Not really, Emmy, but we're big on being unique, and take a lot of pride in what we're good at (i.e. logic).
Thanks Will. Every time someone gives me their results, I like to look into the type they have specified and cross-reference it with what I know of them as people, what I have read, and what I have observed in others. To be honest I think I've barely scratched the surface on this stuff, and I'm always interested to learn more. I appreciate your feedback, and I hope to learn more about all of you guys, your types, and how knowing more about them perhaps helps you navigate life more easily.

Hi Blue,
I feel I fit ENFP more than INFP.
From the INFP profile I read; I am sometimes guided more by principles than logic. I am not motivated by rewards or punishment but instead purity of intent. At work this has always been an issue for my Managers. I have always been motivated by a role in which I can make a difference or add value.
Unlike the ENFP profile I don't consider myself the life of the party but I am happy to organise it and make the environment for others to shine.
I am a people pleaser but have learnt in the last decade to do this only in a way where it doesn't compromise my sense of self or the principles that I hold. I have become better at saying no.
I am very empathetic, maybe too much. I often cry at others bad news before they do. This has been awkward too. I was in a position that I had to make one of my employees redundant and I cried...she was fine! She ended up reassuring me. It was awfully embarrassing but she was appreciative of the concern.
I do have a little spark of madness and like INFP I am creative and artistic and had always intended to be a journalist or author. I had an article published in a newspaper when I was younger and have a poem published in a limited release book.

Hm. I know a fair bit about INFPs, less so about ENFPs. I'll look into that some more when I'm less tired. There are some resources I found just from Googling that give pretty good direct comparisons between similar types that go into a lot more depth than 16 Personalities. They definitely gave me insight into my own personality and why I'm not an INTJ (though having a few very similar tendencies). Maybe the Google machine would help clear it up?
Also, nice work, getting stuff published. 🙂

Hi Wednesday
Thanks for sharing. You too!?
So you did a test and it turns out you're a diamond as opposed to a triangle!? Nothing wrong with diamonds sweet! 😊
Yes, I'm spending a but of time reading up on MBTI. Have had some lightbulb moments myself! For example, I never understood why I'm good with people, and not great with groups. I'm not comfortable with crowded places like shopping centres, parties, weddings etc. I've been married twice. I could've got married quite happily the first time with just immediate family present. My Uncle made a comment to my Mother that I looked unhappy (I wasn't unhappy to get married to this man, that came some considerable years later)! I just wanted the day to finish. The second time I was to be married, we decided was going to be a very small affair but a well meaning (not so close) friend of ours was horrified at the thought and most likely saw our simple desires as a cry for help in organising the day. She pushed on every point and we gave in to the majority of these, believing perhaps we were being selfish after all in not inviting our many friends and letting them watch on. We immediately regretted it of course. We could have just had our besties and our children, and immediate family watching on. Manageable. I'm not sure what personality type our friend is but she couldn't possibly be the same as me/us! I'm pleased to report that I'm not so easily swayed these days in to doing things that others think great for them and not so good for me.
Pet 😊 xx

Hi Blue
I'll be heading to your thread to find out how you are. I'm sorry you're not travelling so well. Take care.
Thanks or your response. Makes sense. I appreciate your input.
For escapism, I'll read fantasy. For example, I'm reading Lian Hearn's Tales of the Otori. A series of fictional stories in old world Japan during the days of Lords and Samurai. When I feel like being inspired I read biographies of those I believe to be the good eggs of the world etc. I'd like to read a biography on Dame Elizabeth Murdoch next. When I need mental health tuning I'll read relevant books. Recently read Elisa Black's The Anxiety Book. Fabulous read for anxiety sufferers, and all really if looking to understand it. Elisa is an Australian journalist with anxiety. She writes with humour and a raw openness that I could relate to. I loved it.
Take care of you!
Pet xx

Hello~
I'm pretty new here so I don't know much about anyone here but I too find personality types to be very interesting. I like to ponder the workings of the human brain and have a fat neauroscience book that I've been SLOWLY getting through. Depression is not helping me to pursue my interests though. The first time I took the MBTI test I was so in awe of how accurate it was. I, too, am an INTP. 🙂 I like feeling unique, but I think it also comes with its issues. For me at least, these are things such as feeling unable to connect (or even being endlessly irritated) with people of vastly different personality types, hence being unable to really like many people. At the same time though, I'm a huge introvert, so I don't mind so much. I'm a creative too. I'm usually the quiet loner in the room, secretly listening to your conversations and analyzing them. And totally not doing creepy things like storing your words in my mind to decipher later while I lie awake at 2am wondering why you'd think in such a strange and illogical way. Anyway, maybe I'll look a bit deeper into this personality stuff sometime.

Emmy, I don't know too many ISTPs, I'll have to do some reading, myself. Did he think it was accurate?
Jenny, welcome to the forums, it's good to meet you. I'm happy to finally see a fellow INTP on this thread, and delighted by your words - I could see a decent amount of my own perspective in both what you had to say and how you articulate yourself. You're right that there are a few challenges to being unique, especially early in life when you're trying to work out who you are and where you fit in the scheme of things. Didn't take me long to figure out I don't like people much either, so being unpopular wasn't a big deal, but I did have some struggles learning to work my way through mandatory social situations like school, work, family events, etc. I totally don't do creepy things like analyse the illogical ways of my peers at 2am, either. 😉
Pet, Tales of the Otori in particular sounds interesting. When it comes to non-fiction I tend to look for articles that get straight to the point I'm looking for, rather than full volumes, so when it comes to books it's mainly escapism for me. Or the occasional reference book, for things like identifying birds. Of the numerous things I'm reading, The Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erickson and Ian Cameron Esslemont is the pinnacle of great modern fantasy for me. Best I've read since Tolkien, though along different lines. It's a vast world full of magic and gods and ancient races, wars and politics. It caters well to my INTP need for complexity and consistency, not to mention great vocabulary.
Cheers to all of you guys for participating in this thread. It's great to get a good discussion going. 🙂
Blue.
