Hey! Welcome to Friends Cafe.
This is a chill and chat space for young BB members to talk about anything and everything and make new friends.
When school's getting to you, uni or work has got you down, parents, partners, friends don't understand, and especially if you're feeling alone or lonely - come and relax awhile and talk to others who know just how you feel.
Our minds can cause us trouble, but they can also be amazing things that imagine beauty, love and fun. This cafe has everything you can imagine. To start with it's, well, a cafe. So there's chairs and tables, comfy couches for flopping, a big screen tele, unlimited download on computers for games, Spotify (or an old-school jukebox if you prefer), every movie you can think of on instant demand ... whatever you want, it's here. Post and tell us what'd you'd like.
Plus, there's an infinite menu of whatever food or drinks takes your fancy. And it's all free!
To kick it off, today we have a special range of Monster Milkshakes - those thick gooey shakes topped with cronuts, chocolate bars, cake, cookies ... whatever you want. And if you can get through one of them, you're a legend (and probably feeling a little bit sick LOL!)
Welcome friends.

Hey everyone,
Welcome NorthShoreCitizen! What you are studying at uni sounds cool. I'm 23 and studying third year psychology at uni. I'm still not sure exactly what I'll do once I finish my undergrad this November.
Thanks for your message ahw. I am doing pretty well right now. I was very stressed about uni, but I got an extension for an assignment and I'm focusing better now (generally)!
Thank you Sherie for letting us know - it's great to see this sort of empathy online 😄
I hope anyone else reading this is well!
All the best,
SM

Hi SM! Good to hear you are doing pretty well at the moment!
I am just going to sit on a beanbag with a warm drink, listen to some music...I should be studying for the legal test I have this week but can't concentrate!!
The weather is crazy where I am right now - it has been very rainy and windy almost non-stop the past few days!! How is the weather where you are?
I hope everyone is staying warm, safe and well. 🙂

Hey 😄
I used to do legal studies at school too ahw! Hopefully your test went well 🙂
I am submitting my last assignment for the semester tonight 😄 Then this Monday swot vac week (for study) starts. I have three exams, and I plan to spend six days on revision for each of them, as the exam days are spaced out. I'm not the best at following through with study schedules though, but we'll see!
I hope you're having a nice long-weekend so far ahw 🙂 I am seeing my boyfriend tomorrow night, which will be nice after my first day of uni revision (hopefully a productive one).
I wish everyone else the best for whatever they are doing!
All the best,
SM

Hey everyone!
Just stumbled upon the cafe and thought id drop in to check it out. Got a few things on my mind and felt like posting them up may be beneficial.
Firstly, im 22 years old and am finishing up first year uni. Just got my assignment back today, 40/45! couldn't be more pleased!
Anyway, i've suffered from social anxiety for a large portion of my life and have just recently overcome a hurdle within myself and am finally starting to open up. I've been going out more often recently to try and become more confident around people and to expose myself to situations in which i normally wouldn't feel comfortable with. It's been scary but i feel good - small steps at a time.
I've changed my hairstyle and regular fashion choices and have begun working out, also in an effort to gain confidence. I feel better now than i have at any time in my life and things are looking up.
I have a surgical operation in 10 days time, non mental health related, and the nerves are starting to settle in. Im excited but nervous at the same time, its something i've wanted done for a few years now. It's a fairly major operation, and the recovery time is 3 months. Im not worried about the physical recovery process but more the mental side of it, seeing as i don't have many people to talk to during this recovery period.
Anyway. Super excited but super scared at the same time. Hope it all goes well.
Not sure if this is the most appropriate thing to post.
Thanks for listening. Oh, *slurp* highly recommend the milkshakes.

Hi SM!!
I hope you enjoyed the time with your boyfriend! Congratulations on submitting your last assignment for this semester and I hope you've had a nice and productive past few days.
I couldn't really study or prepare for my exam so was really anxious the day before and the morning of it, but I ended up doing it and trying my best with what knowledge I had, even though I thought I couldn't. So I guess I am pretty happy with that. 🙂

Hi DanThaman!!
Welcome to the cafe!! I hope you like it, it's so nice to have you here!
Wow, congratulations on your assignment! If you don't mind me asking, what are you studying in uni?
Also congratulations for starting to open up and expose yourself! That's so amazing!! I've had social anxiety for basically my whole life and recently I have also tried to put myself into situations where I'm uncomfortable. I agree, it is really, really scary, but feels good. A few times, I ended up surprising myself and actually having a lot of fun in situations I never could've imagined myself in!
I wish you all the best for the operation! You are always welcome to talk on the forums if you find you need to during the recovery period. I'm sure there will always be someone willing to listen or help.
It's so great to hear you are feeling better and things are starting to look up, and I look forward to getting to know you better!

Hi ahw,
Thanks for your good wishes!
I have been in that situation before multiple times at school, when avoidance/anxiety would stop me from studying for tests or exams. I'm glad that you pushed through and did the best you could. You definitely have the right attitude 🙂
I have my first of three exams this Thursday. It's the last year of my psych degree at uni, so hopefully I can get decent grades.
I hope you had a nice weekend!
All the best,
SM

Hi Dan,
Welcome to the forum!
Congratulations on your uni assignment mark - that is a really great result!
I'm 23 and at university too. I'm studying third year psychology. I have my first exam this week! Do you have exams soon?
It's great that you are working through the social anxiety. Many people become incredibly avoidant, and the fact that you're taking small steps out of your comfort zone shows that overcoming the anxiety is something you definitely can achieve.
I really hope your operation goes well later this week. Hopefully you can get help from close family during recovery, as well as from medical professionals.
I look forward to hopefully hearing from you again 🙂
Best wishes,
SM

Hi SM!
I hope your exams are going well and I wish you all the very best with them! I hope you are well also!!
I've been particularly anxious the past week, and I thought it was because of a concert I had a few days ago, but the days after the concert I felt even worse! So I am a bit frsutrated, confused, and restless, but otherwise going ok! 🙂
It's the last week of school this week before a two week holiday (Not really a holiday though, as I need to study for trials!!)
Take care and stay warm. It's getting a lot colder all of a sudden and really feels like winter!
