Favourite Bands/Singers

Hi guys,

I was inspired by Neil's thread about favourite movies.  I want to know - what are some of your favourite bands/musicians?

Do you have an album that you listen to over and over?  Is there a songwriter who you connect with, that seem like they draw their lyrics directly from your soul?  What is your favourite style of music?  Who did you grow up listening to?

Are you a musician yourself?

And importantly, I'm always looking to discover another band or genre so if you have any suggestions of a great song let me know so that I can look it up 🙂

As for me, I don't really like most of the stuff that gets played on the radio.  The lyrics seem meaningless to me, and the songs are mostly produced just to make money - not to connect with an audience or tell a story.  I prefer songs and artists that are sincere and genuine, that confront important and real life topics or are emotionally touching.  that doesn't mean I live for slow ballads... no, I listen to all kinds of music, fast paced - slow and rhythmic, rap, hip hop, jazz, folk, rock, alternative, metal.... I love it so long as it has some depth.

I'm currently hooked on a band called Twenty One Pilots.  I love em!  Also, I recently discovered a genre called Nerdcore which is rapping about nerdy stuff like computer games and everyday events etc... I love rap but I don't love a lot of the language or topics that are usually rapped about, so chilling out to some lighthearted Nerdcore works for me 🙂

Ah, we are the same vintage Daniel - the Countdown generation. Would I sound really old if I said 'they don't make 'em like thy used to'. Well they don't.

I really liked Elvis Costello and The Boss of course. I'm very much into Creedence now, somehow missed them when I was young.

I was a teenager in the 70s when, off the strength of Countdown, a lot of Aussie bands toured the country, playing town halls etc. It seemed for. while that every couple of months we had a big name Aussie band play at our town hall. I saw Skyhooks, Hush, TMG, Sherbet, JPY, oh those were the days. I also saw ACDC somewhere before they were huge and Cold Chisel during my orientation week at uni.

The first album I bought with my own money was TNT by ACDC. 😄

Hope you're feeling good mate.

From my teens & ever since - Neil Diamond & John Denver.

Before that & since the original Seekers.

But my favourite of all time is/was Pavarotti. What a man & what a voice!

As far as Aussies go - Marina Prior. Oh & yes Mark Vincent. What a pleasure it has been to listen to him & watch him mature from a boy to a man. He is kinda cute!!

Oh Lyn, you are me all over.

I love all of those singers.

Good to see you getting around the different threads Lyn.  ( - :

Daniel - How are you doing lately?

No, it's not the same as it was back then...(typical OLD SPEAK!)

Countdown was great and introduced us to heaps of new bands. I really liked Elvis C, Bowie (and many more). Funny, I missed Creedence too, probably because, as Sherie said, they were a few years before my time.

That must have been fantastic seeing all those Aussie bands you mentioned. I didn't really start seeing them until the 80's when I saw INXS, Midnight Oil, The Sunnyboys, Richard Clapton and a host of others. Seeing ACDC would have been terrific. Cold Chisel too! I saw Midnight Oil 4 times. They were fabulous live.

Not feeling that great actually but really appreciate you writing to me. It was a real boost! Hope to improve over the next few months. Would like to perhaps resurface then, if BB is still around (lol) and wouldn't mind an old Countdowner joining in.

Daniel

Hi Sherie, am doing ok. Thanks for asking.

Sounds good Daniel, something to look forward to.

Hi Sherie,

Yes, I'm looking forward to getting better and perhaps being able to participate more in the forums. Thanks to you and Kazzi (and BB) for all your help and support.

What sort of a long weekend are you having Daniel?  I hope the Easter Bilby has visited you .....

Sherie xx

Hi Sherie, I had a mostly quiet Easter break. Didn't see the Bilby but thanks for the thought.

Hope your Easter went well and Holly's too!

Cheers Daniel
