Dear MM~
Thanks for swinging by (red nails and all). I did not realise you were on a diet too. The chock bars sound very tempting (probably too tempting)
Did you get to go for a swim?
Yes I'm getting back into posting. I realy dried up there for a while, still not as good as I'd like, but posting is good for me too.

Hello to a very dear Mr Walrus,
I hope that seeing you posting more means your son is getting better? There is nothing worse (in my view anyway) than waiting and hoping for a very unwell child to improve. Doesn't matter what age they are really they're always going to be your baby.
Huge hugs to you Croix. Perhaps if you need a distraction to help in a tough moment you might enjoy a movie called 'Rock Dog'.
It's a kids movie (seems that's all I watch really) about a Tibetan Mastiff pup who wants to be a musician rather than a sheep guardian. Includes a crochety superstar cat, wolf Mafia and a feel good happy ending which of course is absolutely essential to any movie in my books.
Sending my thoughts your way. Even if I don't post much I do think often about how you are holding up.
Love Nat

Dear Nat~
How lovely to see you here, I'm posting a bit more, however wiht the offspring it is more getting used to the situation than anything - we will see I guess. My partner, Mrs C (I'm not allowed to call her Mrs Walrus), is a huge help and keeps me on track.
We are hopeful.
You are right, they remain our kids all their lives.
I hope you are managing with all your 'ferals' and your garden is looking good.

Hi Croix,

Good afternoon Croix....you haven't "parlayed" on here for a while and I was wondering, with a long hot summer looming, and no need for a fire, what do you sit beside in your smoking jacket now, pretending to be Noel Coward or do you go swanning around the town squares or the seaside a la Oscar Wilde?
I notice you and Birdy are so busy digging up your corny old Wednesday Worst Jokes, it wouldn't leave much time for anything else? Where DO you both get them from? Do you have Joke Books full of them or what? (I suspect you even make some of them up!!)...anyway just wanted to say Hello.

Dear Moon~
No, I've not said much as happy memories are a trifle elusive at the moment however I think things are improving.I still have the wood fire, it still gets chilly in the evening, but it is not a blase, just enough to keep the room warm.
I think Sumo Cat would have words with me if I let it go out.
On reflection I'd sooner pretend to be Alistair Cooke if I had to be a literary personage - plus it would stop me being mistaken for Arnie all the time.
Mr Cook's "Letter from America" was one of my favorite radio shows from the US, the other being "The News from Lake Wobegone" in A Prairie Home Companion. Both long running and both sadly in the past.
I buy my jokes fresh in bulk, assorted like one used to be able to get sweets, a mixed bag for a few pence. I think Birdy, judging from the quality, probably goes to op-shops where the wealthy discard last year's drollery as too passé. (sorry Birdy).
So may I ask how you have been, and what enterprises you are engaged in at present?
Croix (who is expecting 'massive retaliation' from Birdy)

So nice to hear from you Croix. Methinks you maybe a trifle more mature-aged than myself....re those particular radio shows. It's good to know you get your jokes fresh, in bulk...I shall have to pay more notice to any differences in quality between yours and Birdy's.
speaking of enterprises..as the year draws to its close a slightly different type of bowling tournament is coming up, to which I am not really suited, but however I shall no doubt be involved in a supportive capacity...(I get severe withdrawal symptoms if I am away from my high energy place for too long)
.but I have high hopes for next year that my skills maybe utilised fully once again (before I have to use a walking frame onto the green!!!)
The thought of being plunged yet again into the Festive Season ghastliness makes me shudder with horror...oh where can I go? Someone tell me please how can I avoid this monstrous season.....even the Buddhists retreats are closed!
I swear I will do something drastic when that dreaded question starts coming...."and what are you Doing For Christmas"??????

Dear Moon
I'm pleased you are at least playing boules or equivalent rather than your favored game of bowls. It will have a very similar atmosphere I'm sure, probably together with people you know well.
Someone tell me please how can I avoid this monstrous season
Well I know it has memories for you, however maybe you can sort of mentally distance yourself, thinking of it as a commercial overlay on ordinary life, to be ignored or looked at with reserve. Closer to the day I guess planning comes into it, the days in question filled with other matters.
As for what to say, I think you might quote Ebenezer Scrooge who summed the whole matter up quite succinctly.
Failing that there is Albus Dumbledore " One can never have enough socks. Another Christmas has come and gone and I didn’t get a single pair."
Either of those can lead to non-Xmas conversation.

Hello Croix,
I'm sorry to hear that you had problems over the last few weeks, but you still managed to be supportive towards me. I really apricate it and I'm very grateful for this. I hope you're feeling better soon and I hope that your son gets better soon.
I hope you have a nice day today.
Cheers SilvaLady
