A song to express your feelings

At this hour, I find myself particularly vulnerable because I am heavily sleep deprived, and my brain can't really process. I have been awake for 21 hours and 12 minutes straight after a string of nights of only a few hours' sleep. I don't feel well, nor do I feel sleepy. So, I am listening to the soundtrack of my life entitled "Walkabouts" and right now, the perfect song to describe what I am feeling (at least the chorus of it) is Madness by Muse. Has anyone ever felt like they could communicate more if they did it through the songs that already exist? I challenge us to have a conversation consisting of song quotes.

So, dedicated to my depression; here I go...

Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad....Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...I, I can't get these memories ooout of my mind, and some kind of maaaadness has started to evolve. Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad... And I, I tried so hard to let you go-ooo, but some kind of maaaadness is swallowing me whole, yeah....Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...I have finally seen the light. And I have finally realized, what you mean....

Ooh oh oh

[MODERATOR'S NOTE: Hi everyone, just a reminder that song lyrics are copyrighted material, and we (as in BB) can get into trouble for reproducing them without permission.  If you could just keep to sharing song titles, or one or two lines from the song at most, rather than whole lyrics that would be great - that way we can keep this thread open. ]

Croix, I love "Take 5". It's got that wonderful 5/4 timing. It makes me feel like I am in an atmospheric city on a rainy afternoon, perhaps sitting in a cafe watching the world go by outside the window while feeling relaxed and cosy inside. It has such an easy, cruisy feeling to it. It's sort of hypnotic in a healing way.

At the moment I am feeling defiant in relation to certain things so for me it is:

"Take one last look" by Tom Waites (2015)

This is about hope, leaving behind a life that was not good and reflecting on what tied you  to it and changing to something else.

Croix, those are nice lyrics to the Tom Waits song. I just watched him performing it live on the Letterman show on YouTube. I then watched a clip of the interview with him from the same show. It was hilarious and he made me laugh out loud several times 🤣 I needed that. If you haven’t seen the interview I suggest watching “Free the Glutens” Tom Waits Interview 2015.

I feel so strange at the moment I’m not sure what song reflects my feelings but perhaps:

Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel

To me it’s sort of a song about breaking out of something that isn’t quite right and reconnecting with yourself and the grounded reality you know is healthy for you. The song is sort of triumphant, resolving and unsettling all at the same time - perhaps the true nature of change and transition in life. It has 7/4 timing which is very unusual, switching to 4/4 in parts.

Yes I have seen the interview:)

I'll choose Willie Nelson - On The Road Again (1981)

Like the previous two entries it talks of new places and hope, but assumes a group of friends and having a good time, both of which are refreshing and remind one of a different world.

While we talking of travel and hope I"ll repeat:

"Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz" sung by Janis Joplin while watching a TV show called "Dialing for Dollars" that dials viewers and gives out prizes

Many have taken it as her commentary on commercialism.

Don’t Be Afraid by Andy White

I just woke with another fear surge of adrenaline and this song has helped somewhat.

First heard this song as a kid. It’s about feeling different and I have always felt different.

The Road Not Taken by Bruce Hornsby & The Range

This song came to me today. Bruce Hornsby is my absolute favourite piano player. He blends his beautiful playing with bluegrass influences, such as in this song, but he can play an incredible range of genres extremely well. I find this song manages to take a kind of heartbreaking subject and make it beautiful and healing.
