At this hour, I find myself particularly vulnerable because I am heavily sleep deprived, and my brain can't really process. I have been awake for 21 hours and 12 minutes straight after a string of nights of only a few hours' sleep. I don't feel well, nor do I feel sleepy. So, I am listening to the soundtrack of my life entitled "Walkabouts" and right now, the perfect song to describe what I am feeling (at least the chorus of it) is Madness by Muse. Has anyone ever felt like they could communicate more if they did it through the songs that already exist? I challenge us to have a conversation consisting of song quotes.
So, dedicated to my depression; here I go...
Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad....Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...I, I can't get these memories ooout of my mind, and some kind of maaaadness has started to evolve. Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad... And I, I tried so hard to let you go-ooo, but some kind of maaaadness is swallowing me whole, yeah....Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-mad mad mad...I have finally seen the light. And I have finally realized, what you mean....
Ooh oh oh
[MODERATOR'S NOTE: Hi everyone, just a reminder that song lyrics are copyrighted material, and we (as in BB) can get into trouble for reproducing them without permission. If you could just keep to sharing song titles, or one or two lines from the song at most, rather than whole lyrics that would be great - that way we can keep this thread open. ]

The Maigret Theme - Ron Grainer 1960
Although it was not written by a Frenchman it reminds me very much of the time I spent in Paris, something I look back on fondly
PS I found the Roxy Music "More than this" thought provoking, glad I looked

Hello Croix,
I'm just listening to the Maigret Theme and I really like it. Yes, it does sound so French.
I remember liking Roxy Music's More Than This but had never looked at the lyrics before and I just did now, and they are really nice and, as you say, thought provoking.
Speaking of Roxy Music made me think of Brian Eno, their keyboard player. I have several of Brian's ambient music albums which I really like. Several years ago I had a sudden thought, I think Brian Eno would be a cat person. I then googled "Brian Eno cats" and heaps of images of him with his various pet cats appear. I don't know how I knew this, I just did. If you look at them, you will see one with his black cat who has the most hilarious death stare. There is one where his cat is staring at him and one where he's staring at the camera. I have wondered if Sumo looks like this when he is unimpressed? 🤣
As I'm in a silly mood this morning, I'll choose a novel, curious Brian Eno song to express my feelings:
I'll Come Running (To Tie Your Shoe) from Another Green World (1975).

While looking at "Ill come running to tie your shoe" (pity about elastic sided boots) the next pic in Youtube was a Pot Black snippet which reminded me of their theme:
George Botsford's "The Black and White Rag" played by Winifred Atwell
Always cheers me up.

Kāhore He Manu E - Marlon Williams featuring Lorde in a duet.
This song is so beautiful and for me personally it reflects a recent decision making process of being at a crossroads and also the processing of grief. It is sung in Maori but with a translation in subtitles in the video.

"Mrs. Robinson" (1967
A song by American folk rock duo Simon and Garfunkel
Even without the religious overtones it seems to be a kindly song recognizing the loneliness and desolation of suburban life. Was used in the Movie "The Graduate".
I did listen to Kāhore He Manu E which seemed to me gentle, reflective and maybe yearning.

Hello Croix,
I got into listening to Simon and Garfunkel after Paul Simon's Graceland came out and then a lot of the S & G songs were being played on the radio again. One of my favourites of theirs is The Boxer.
Gentle, reflective and yearning are all good words to describe Kāhore He Manu E. I really love Marlon Williams' voice. I heard him play live back in 2015. His first album made me think of Odetta's music in terms of the vocal style that he and she both use. My favourite record in my parent's collection was Odetta's One Grain of Sand. The title track One Grain of Sand is written by Pete Seeger and she performs it so beautifully.
The current song to express my feelings is another new Peter Gabriel song called What Lies Ahead. Peter's father was an inventor and electrical engineer and the song is about the process of giving birth to a creative idea and then trying to get it out into the world. There is a video online of him talking about the writing and meaning of the song. It connects for me right now as I am trying to create a new future for myself. I find it quite easy to have the vision but it can be challenging working out how to put into practice. But as the song says, that future lies in my hands.

The Sound of Silence' by Simon & Garfunkel (1964)
The sound of silence is the result of being alone in a world where people are present but disconnected. Also the scarcity of genuine communication, together with conformity (inspired I guess by the Vietnam War)
I did listen to "the Boxer" which has some memorable phrases, 'places only poor people know' for one. The boxer has taken the wrong path and faces loneliness, poverty and defeats but keeps on anyway. He does have the luxury of going or dreaming of going back to his home far from New York. It may question perseverance in all situations.
I appreciate all S&G songs, their gentle harmony and messages with insight applicable to today
