A Fascinating Word of the Day

I'm a fan of the little game threads we have on here, so I'd like to start one myself.

I've always been fascinated by language and I love reading and writing. I also love expanding my vocabulary with words I've never heard of, so I'd like everyone to share one of their favourite words! It could be a long word, an old word, an interesting word... just a word that you've heard that you like, and its meaning.

I'll start with the word INDIGNANT, which is essentially used to describe a feeling or display of frustration towards perceived mistreatment and injustice. It's similar to "disgruntled" or "discontent", but with the added element of motivation for changing unfair treatment. For example, an indignant letter can be written to HR, or a child can become indignant if they're asked to do chores.

What's your word?

Dear Sbella02~

Actually the word 'chores' is interesting, although of course it may mean any necessary job, probably domestic, it conjurers up for me a kid in the US living with his family in a log cabin and being sent to split wood or pump water from a well, maybe even muck-out the stables

"Go and see to your chores John-boy"

Croix, it's so interesting how different words conjure different imagery for us. "Chores" does have that kind of back-to-basics, laborious feel to it, I think that your description seems quite fitting.

I do love indignant, I should use it more often! My current favourite word is "yikes!" its a much less threatening word to use when you cant drop the f word at work.

Dear Sbella02~

I guess I'll give you one of my least favorite words - "impecunious" - which which promotes images of being cast out (as an orphan of course) in the snow by heartless landlords.

Croix, I don't think I've ever heard that one before. It sounds quite morbid, which is fitting given the description.

I think that there are some words that are so well-suited to their meaning. Like fireplace, it sounds so warm and comforting.

Kerfuffle a fuss sometimes involving a few people.

Yikes I was indignant to be called impecunious, sitting by the fireplace thinking of my chores. What a kerfuffle about words.
thanks sbella

Kerfuffle is such a silly one, I love using it when it comes up.

Fiddlesticks Quirky, far from being indignant you quite enjoyed stringing all those words together:)
