Work performance anxiety

I don't understand where this comes from but there are times when I am anxious about my work and I worry I'm not putting in my best effort or I think others can see I'm not performing very well. I've had this kind of anxiety for many years and I don't know how to consistently cope with it. I recognise I put myself down and so criticise myself. I just wish I could be happy with my effort on a consistent basis.

What should I do to help myself?

Hi itisawesome I know exactly what you mean. I have the same feelings about my work as well. I recently started a new job and I worry about my performance which makes me struggle to reach my potential which causes me to get anxious and depressed which makes me feel worse and the cycle can continue.

For me what I have found that helps is going to therapy and talking my concerns out. It has helped me reduce my stress about my work performance. I have also got a mentor which I find helps. If I am struggling with something at work or need advice I ask them for guidance and they are really good. It my profession you have to have a mentor for at least a year then after that it is optional. So I have gotten one in my workplace. If they give me guidance they show they care and they know I am capable but want to improve myself.

I also find mindefulness helps as well. I find if I reduce my general anxiety it also helps my work anxiety. I try meditate before going to bed or if I'm in the bath. I also try make sure I do self care such as going out with friends or taking a bath or deep breathing exercises if my stress is high.

hello itisawesome, thanks for your comment and your feelings could be because it's not the work you want to do, or somebody else not specifically at work has always been questioning your capability.
Anxiety can come from all directions and once you feel this way it just spreads to where ever you are, work, home, social situations or any interaction you maybe involved in, but if you don't talk with your doctor then it's going to continue, don't let this happen. Geoff.
