Where has this new bout of anxiety come from?

Hi everyone

This is my first post and I am a bit nervous around posting as I have self managed my anxiety for many years and I am only just starting to open up about my mental health to others around me.
I have learnt some great management strategies that have allowed me for almost 15 years control my thoughts so that I can bring myself back to the present quickly and dismiss those awful what if and awful future thoughts that are there, however for the last few weeks I have all the physical symptoms - racing heart, shakes, exhaustion etc without the thoughts that normally come first. This means I am at a loss as to how to control and get myself out of my anxious state, in fact I have been highly anxious and all over the place almost constantly for the last few days, it's so tiring and I just don't know what to do.
Has anyone else gone through this? I'm not sure on what my next steps should be?

Thank you so much and I hope that makes sense to at least one person.

Hi, I don’t have answers for you but you aren’t alone at all. My anxiety is mostly physical now. And I find it is harder that way because I don’t know why I’m feeling this way so I feel that I can’t fix it. If I was worried about for example a messy house, I could clean it and then feel ok. But it just pops up for no reason a lot of the time. Mine used to be accompanied by worries then physical symptoms. My doctor says my worries are subconscious though and the talking to a psychologist will help. It really sucks!

Hello Dumbledore82 and welcome to the forums too!

It takes courage to write our first post and good on you.....The forums are a Safe and non judgemental place for you to post...Your privacy and well being are paramount to Beyond Blue 🙂

I understand your anxiety symptoms as I used to have chronic anxiety for a few years and its an awful place to be in. You have done well by self managing your symptoms so far....I dont know how severe your anxiety has been so I can only speak from my own experience if thats okay

  • If our anxiety interferes with our day to day well being then we really need some help from a GP...
  • Anxiety cant really be 'controlled'....it can make the condition worse sometimes

Can I ask if your anxiety has been having a negative impact on your day to day well being?

You are an amazing person by reaching out and talking about these common symptoms...There are many gentle people on the forums that also suffer from the same horrible condition that can be here for you 🙂

This is exactly how I feel, I am at a loss what to do now so I think it's time for a GP visit to help me get back on track, thank you for the taking time to read my post and hopefully we can both get there!

Thank you so much for your reply, my anxiety is definitely starting to play a much bigger part in my day to day life and I am starting to notice negative interference so I will book to see a GP and see where I can go from here.
Have a wonderful day, thank you so much

Thanks for sharing Dumbledore82, your post in some ways echoes my own reason for coming onto the forum - that I am experiencing a wholly different type of anxiety that I feel i cannot manage in the ways that I have in the past.

Good on you for booking an appointment with the GP, I think that's a good step to take. And just remember there's a lot of support out there and on here.
