Hi all
I am new to these forums and am looking for, well I’m not sure what I’m looking for.
I have a 6 year who is insanely intelligent, but also has anxiety and probably adhd. I have changed his school recently to get more support for their giftedness , but his anxiety has been extreme with the change and he struggling to make friends and he begs to go back to his old school. His teacher and councillor have talked to me this week about getting him tested for giftedness, but also adhd and anxiety.
He is only 6, I am really worried about having him diagnosed with a mental health and behaviour issue that will stay with him. His father was and is similar in characteristics and he is very much against testing or support and believes he should be left alone to be a child. Has anyone else had experience with a gifted child with a disability/anxiety?

Hi, welcome
Well, no I haven't, however if you google "famous people with ADHD or bipolar or depression" you will be surprised. Famous adventurers became famous as their great manic minds made them energetic and pushed on further than normal people.
I disagree in not pursuing the giftedness testing and ADHD/anxiety. I'd certainly go by what the medical profession recommends, they know far more than us.
You can google this-
Beyondblue topic the origin of anxiety
Some of us parents are fearful that our child carries a mental illness. Please remember, we are only classed as mentally ill as we don't fall within the category of "normal". We are "normal" for us. The stigma we carry for our issues is unfair. We often just need a little help in life so we fit in and manage our lives in a calm way.
