Social pranking scares me, so I stay home.

I am not a fan of social pranking that takes place to total strangers. I’ve seen on social media where women have a blanket thrown over them while shopping and other situations where women are the target of being frightened.

I mainly live with anxiety and PTSD. I have nightmares regularly and avoid going out as I have been hassled many times because of my sexuality and how I dress. So I don’t want to go out and now be more frightened of pranks.

Are there Others who are worried by these pranksters who target women.

thanks

Hi, welcome

I had a major workplace upset many years ago. One ongoing symptom was an intolerance of crowds and people in general.

I attended therapy with a negative view of its success. What the therapist taught me was "perspective and realism".

E.g. if you were to attend a supermarket at 8pm and do food shopping, what is the chance of being cranked? Very low. Same with a Sunday market.

What I'm suggesting is that we can often overreact to what can hurt us. Keep it in perspective and be wise so as to minimalise the chances.

Hi Green grass,

I personally also feel uncomfortable with social media pranking. White Knight mentioned some great tips for example choosing certain times to do your grocery shopping.

Do you by chance see a psychologist or counsellor? It may be an idea to talk through some coping mechanisms.

Sorry to hear that you have been feeling this way but please know that you are not alone.
