Scared & waiting

Hi. I don't know if I'm in the right place or if anyone can help.
And where do I begin. I'm pretty scared at the moment. I've been to my GP because I've been feeling constant pressure in the backside. 1 test has resulted in a negative but physical examination has lead to feeling a mass and therefore a colonoscopy is required.
I guess my question is how do you go about the day in limbo. Its hard to ignore the sensation as it's present every day. In the meantime I'm waiting on the appointment with a specialist. I can't help thinking worst case scenario.
What would you do while you're waiting on an outcome.
Sorry for the rambling I'm guessing fear is taking over. I'm already in a negative environment as I live with my parents dad who is severely depressed mum has been his primary caretaker and I also worried that she can not do with added more stress from me. We are seriously a household of nervous Nancy's at the moment.

Hello mez79,

I'm not sure I can make you feel better - we all respond to things in different ways. But might it help to acknowledge that, whatever the results, no amount of worrying will change that? I.e. we have no control over some things. It's like the Schroedinger's cat scenario - until you know for sure, there is both outcomes simultaneously - perhaps take comfort in the significant chance you have of it being nothing.

I wish you all the best.

Big hugs.

Hi Mez79

Thank you for sharing. I hope it feels good to be able to share what you're going through at the moment.

Sorry to hear you're having problems with your health. I understand how it feels to be anxious about it, I am having further tests on some health issues myself and have health anxiety ongoing. I have found the fellow users in this community are very supportive, we are all here to listen any time!

Do you practice any calming techniques? Such as meditation or mindfulness? There are some great apps like Smiling Mind and MindShift. I had a fellow user encourage me to be mindful in the little things I was doing, to help take the mind off the worry. Eg. You're washing the dishes, instead of letting your mind wander - think about how the cloth feels in your hands, how the water feels, any smells in the room, etc. Try and think of the 5 senses. I hope something like this can bring your mind into the present moment instead of thinking into the future.

One thing you can feel relief about, is that you have a very supportive and caring doctor who is there to help you. The doctors are the experts, so, let them take care of their side, while you can focus on taking care of yourself.

I wish you all the best 🙂
