Panic Disorder

This is all undiagnosed and we are in the process going to neurologists and psychologists but my son has been having these attacks at high school much like anxiety attacks but they have been getting worse where he goes unconscious. Now he has has two episodes of walking out of class with no recollection of doing it. Once he was followed and he was in the carpark saying he waiting for me to pick him up and today he walked 1km down the road and found himself outside school not knowing how he got there. I was thinkimg panic disorder but now this is different. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Hello EZ, welcome to the forums and indeed so sorry as to what is happening with your son.

I can't diagnose him as I'm not doctor, however, can I make a suggestion as he's been unconscious and seeing a neurologist is that it maybe epilepsy which unfortunately I sustained from a head injury and developed this injury.

It does leave me with the same systems not knowing what day it is or even year until I can gather my senses and realise.

There are various degrees if somebody does have epilepsy.

Has it left your son feeling very tired?

Welcome to the forums and thank you for reaching out and being here.

I can imagine that this is very worrying for you! I am glad though that you are looking into a neurologist and a psychologist - how long is the wait?

There are lots of different reasons why this might happen which is why I think it's good that you are covering all your bases. One of the first things that came to mind is dissociative fugue, which is where a person looks totally normal but has lost awareness and memory. There are lots of things that can cause this, but I wanted to share it because even if it seems so unusual and rare chances are what your son is experiencing is probably quite common.

I hope that you're able to find some support in these forums. I imagine that everything is quite overwhelming so please let us know if we can help you out in some way.

Thanks for replying Geoff. He does get tired and a headache afterwards but usually is back to normal after a couple of hours. We went to neurologist today which was helpful

Thanks for replying. The neurologist appointment was today so less than a week to see him. Psychologist is about 6 weeks. Yet to see her. After the neurologist today I feel like its not epilepsy but he needs more info. My other thought is its caffeine related but I will find that very hard to control.
