Panic attacks - feeling like not belonging

Community Member

Hi there. This is my first time posting on this forum. I am 31 years old and living with Autism.

I recently had 2 (now 3) panic attcks where I felt like I didn't beling/live in my own home, like I belonged/lived somehwere else. These attacks had come out of nowhere. I had tingling in my hands, feet, and mouth, my chest tightened and I felt like I couldn't breathe. It is difficult for me as an Autistic person to calm down and think positively. Anyone else felt like this?

Hi, I read your post so good your able to write about the discomfort these attacks bring to you. Have you seen your GP cause they can be good for understanding and help. I hope you have family and friends who you can chat with about this trouble. When I am overwhelmed I put on a full body wet suit and the pressure of the wet suit calms me, it is an expensive time consuming exercise, most days I wear normal under clothes pressure garments. If this is helpful Yay if it is not then ditch it, I hope the best for you.

Hi Gabby Neill,

Wellcome to our forums!

Sorry you are feeling this way I understand how scary panic attacks can feel…….. I had severe anxiety OCD, I have now recovered from this condition thanks to the help of health professionals…….

I can relate to what you are saying about the thought you had of you not belonging living in your house……..

When I was in the depths of OCD I had many intrusive thoughts that would confuse me they would sometimes drive me into a panic attack until I received professional help…… I learned many strategies and I also learned how to challenge my thoughts……

Have you seeked help from a professional? You could start at your gp, you could do a mental health plan together this will enable you to see a psychologist who can give you many strategies…..

here to chat 😊
