New start?

Just wondering if I'm making the right decision.  I'm leaving my toxic job of 2.8 yrs Bernadine the bullying has become so bad from management and even other workers are noticing.  They continue to bring up that I had a mental health crisis a yr ago at work.  Panic attack.  I am in the process of requiring another job.  Just have to do the last few requirements.

I heat wonder though am i doing the right thing.  Could this new place and new start just be me stepping into another toxic company? Or is it better staying with the devil you know?  So much anxiety.  The pay is less in the new job but there are set shifts whereas where I am they cut and add shifts whenever they want.

I'm casual but the new job is offereing perm - part time.

No week is the same for the roster where I am currently, making it hard to budget.

Thoughts? 🤔

Hi there op.

Imo, the way they're treating you and the environment in your present job is  just a silly way to live and congrats on the new job app. My vote, leave them be letem live in their own stupid games and misery, go find yourself a happier place in work.

God knows why people wanna live in and create a work environment like that, just stupid people l say.  Yaknow, you spend such a huge portion of our lives working, trying to make that in something and a place that we actually enjoy , the people included. l suppose there'll always be one apple but when the whole place from top down is all fun and games, forget it l say.

l worked for myself for the most part later on but earlier in l had quite a few different jobs for awhile there and it amazed me how one place could be some silly toxic thing where they'd all backstab and have their pecking orders , didn't like you or whatever else, AH bosses - yet you'd go to another job and you'd actually fit in, people were nice, bosses looked after everyone and the mentality couldn't be more opposite.

Good luck anyway eh.

Hi Suzi,

I know what it is like to be in a job where there is mind games and power dynamics at play. I chose to left and have never looked back. I had nights where I was up at night as I felt anxious and my mind was racing and I knew within me that I just did not want to be there. The money was not worth my mental health. I think you are making a wise choice to start somewhere new and put that behind you. The idea of set shifts is reassuring as well and makes budgeting and finances much more manageable too. If the other job was cutting shifts, that would make things more difficult to manage finances, so although the money may be less it sounds like you may have more certainty in this new role and peace of mind. I think it would also be worth speaking to a counsellor around boundaries, assertive communication, and also managing self care. Unfortunately, we will run into people that may be disagreeable, antagonistic and passive aggressive at times. This could be at work, family and in the community but learning how to manage our self, our emotions, our thoughts and actions and self-care is crucial. We cannot control how others behave or what they think, we can only control our response, how we conduct ourselves and our behaviour based on our values and what is important to us. I hope this post helps. I wish you all the best in your new role, take a deep breath and acknowledge what you have been through but also honour the new direction you are taking which is also a sign of strength. Knowing when to walk away is strength.
