Hi,
A few weeks ago i had a job interview for a position i applied for, a few days after the interview i got a call to let me know i got the job. Whilst i should be feeling happy and excited i not only got an interview but got the job, i don't feel excited. I've been out of work for the past 3 years, saw a counsellor this year about being out of work and liked being able to speak to a professional. I applied for many jobs and got used to never hearing back from jobs i applied for. The past year I've been volunteering for an op shop to gain new skills and to get used to being in a work environment, when i first started i hated it and got depressed but after 3 months i liked it and now that i'm leaving for this new job i'm finding it really hard to leave. I know in the long term it's the right decision to leave for this new job but i'm finding it tough leaving the people and the organisation behind. This week was my last week and knowing i won't be there again is really hard. It's the little things as well as the big things i'll miss - the routine, the nearby cafes and just the overall experience.
It's a big decision to accept a new job and whilst i'll put in so much effort it doesn't make it easier knowing what i'm leaving behind
Thanks for taking the time to have a read

Hi bf90!
My parents volunteer at an op-shop and I have had some involvement with that too, so I know how special it can be to be part of that community!
I'm sure your colleagues at the op shop understand you need to take paid work and that you will miss them dearly. I was out of work for 10 months and it is so much harder than I realised. I feel there are more people looking for work than there are vacant jobs nowadays so unemployment is a growing issue. You have made the right decision accepting the job.
When I finally got work I made a decision to make my life easier and my employer happier - I wrote a "night before work" list - which includes making the next days lunch, polishing my shoes, ironing my uniform etc and a "before work" list (Shower, put face on, clean teeth, feed dog, turn off heater etc) and I leave for work with heaps of time (you can park nearby & entertain yourself with phone, book, etc). This eliminates the stress I used to feel of running late. I have also been keeping a diary of tips to help me improve at my job and this has really helped me to focus. My boss loves me and I love my boss and 1 month in work is going great!! I wish the same for you xoxoxo
