Hi aussiememe,

Firstly, welcome to the forums.

It is hard to tell anyone about mental health issues, especially anxiety because reality is a lot of people don't understand it. Have you got a friend in the group you are closer too? I would start with telling them if you do as that may make it easier than just telling the group as a whole, almost telling them one by one if you feel it will help you. Hopefully they understand and support you as that is always great to have that kind of support from friends when you suffer from a mental health concern.

My best for you,

Jay

Hi aussiememe,

Welcome to the forum!

It's good that you are wanting to open up to your friends. This webpage has great tips on talking about mental illness with others: https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/have-the-conversation/talk-about-it#findwords

I hope your friends are good listeners. If they seem uncomfortable, don't despair. Some people don't have personal exposure to mental health conditions, and lack knowledge.

Good luck! You are welcome to post back here whenever you like 🙂

Best wishes,

Zeal

I think you'll be surprised that someone else may own up to the same, or share that their brother/sister/mother/father/cousin etc is also suffering from anxiety. Telling just one close friend may help o feel better and give you the confidence to speak to the rest of the group. Good luck 🙂
