My anxiety story (pointers needed!)

Just thought I would try something new and put my story out there to try and get another solution/ some tips to manage my anxiety.
It started a few months ago when I was super busy at work. I started making a few mistakes and then it would affect the end result of the job. I coped with it, but i dwelled on the thought of it and I got worse, to the point where I would panic every day on my way to work (just an FYI, I absolutely love my job and the people I work with).
My manager started to get concerned and asked if I was ok and offered to take me to the doctor. I said it’s ok and I went myself that very afternoon. The doctor asked me questions and then sent me for a blood test and an ECG heart scan. The results came back and they were all perfect, not a thing wrong with me.
The anxiety got worse and The doctor recommended I go see a physiologist. I have been 4 times and I feel like it isn’t working.
I freaked out that bad one day that I ended off going back to the doctor and they gave me a light anti depressants. It started working and now it isn’t working anymore. It’s like they aren’t strong enough.
I don’t know what to do anymore, my stomach is tight, my chest is tight, i constantly worry about everything and the worst part is I just want to give up and quit. I hate everything about what this anxiety has done to me, it’s turned me into a different person.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how I can handle this or calm myself down a bit.
Thank you.

Hi jg1996,
Great to see you posting here on the forum. I am sorry to hear you are struggling with your symptoms. You are not alone. You have taken important steps towards managing your anxiety by reaching out to your employer, your GP, a psychologist as well as trying some medication. Don't give up hope. There are many ways to treat anxiety and it often to takes a few tries to get the exact formula right in finding your way back to being you again. Each individual responds differently to different treatments. Sometimes people find recovery comes quickly and for others it takes a bit longer. Be kind to yourself during this time.
I often suggest to keep in touch with your Doctor and support networks more regularly while you are finding the right balance in treatments. I wonder if you have told your psychologist that things are not improving for you despite having 4 sessions? It can be really helpful to have this kind of discussion so you can look at solutions together. As far as taking your medication and noticing an improvement and then a decline, I wonder if you might visit your prescribing Doctor and discuss this with them? Sometimes it takes a while to get medication levels just right.
I also wonder if you have practiced any type of Mindfulness? This can help some people stay in the moment (even for a short period) and allow your minds to have a break from the constant worry. Worrying can be really exhausting and taking a break from it for even 15 minutes a day can be very relieving to the mind. To read more about Mindfulness, you could use the search feature here on the forum as there are a lot of different threads that discuss this practice. Another site to visit is called Smiling Mind which is at www.smilingmind.com.au
If you are ever in a place where you need to talk to someone don't hesitate to ring the Beyond Blue support line on 1300 22 4636. It can be really helpful to just have a chat when you are having a tough moment.
Wishing you the best possible outcome,
Nurse Jenn
