Has anyone got any good tips for getting rid of anxiety related muscle spasms. Get so much worse when I try to sleep, that plus insomnia means no sleep so far tonight and I'll have to feed my baby soon anyway but know I can't keep this up

Hi JJJJ,

Welcome to the forum!

I get really tight and "knotted" muscles from anxiety, which affects my sleep too. Sometimes I wake up stiff, because I have tensed up in my sleep. I also get muscle spasms at times. Going to a physio could help you, as well as sometimes getting remedial massages. Unfortunately these massage sessions are expensive. However, they are worth getting once every so often, if you can. If family members don't know what to get you for a gift, you could suggest a remedial massage voucher! If two people share the cost, it could be a practical gift idea!

I'd actually suggest seeing your GP first, as they can give you a holistic medical perspective on your anxiety and muscle spasms. If you can get your anxiety under control, an improvement in the muscle spasms is likely to follow.

I hope you can seek treatment, and that you and your baby remain happy and healthy over the festive period 🙂

Best wishes,

SM

Hi JJJJ

SM had some good advise there.

I've had bowel spasms for around 25 years. I get them in the middle of the night often if I've over eaten late in the evening. I take Donnatabs. Over the counter medication from your pharmacy. You can get advice from your pharmacy or like SM said- your GP.

Hi JJJJ

i have lots of muscle twitches, it's worse during times of rest and when trying to go to sleep.

anxiety makes it worse, so if you worry about it, it gets worse. Also I find coffee, chocolate and alcohol make it worse too.

Aside from that I have nothing, sorry. If you discover something please let me know!
