Medication

Hi

Firstly I want to know whether I can talk about medications, like can I tell you what I am on. Last week my doctor doubled two of my meds and I am absolutely exhausted, but in saying that, I worked Monday and Tuesday(I am a teacher) and then yesterday and today I have been getting ready for Christmas. Peeling olives and stuffing them with a meat mixture, an Italian tradition. Just want to know how long will it take for my body to get use to the increase in medication. I have been suffering anxiety for a long time, but things went a bit pear shaped, so had a review of meds. Because I have problems with meds, a genetic test was suggested to see what I can take. This was done through a chemist. Results came back that I needed high dosages to have any effect. Anyhow, I was under a psych and I kept telling him, that my anxiety was spiralling out of control and he just told me to feel the anxiety. So after speaking to my pharmacist, she suggested I get a second opinion. I went back to my doctor who has my report and has made the changes I mentioned above. I would like to go to another psych, but boy oh boy, the price is unbelievable. I will stay with my doctor and if things don't improve, I will go to see another psych.

Hi Agobella,

Thanks for posting.

The forums rules do not allow you to make any reference to specific prescription medication names and/or dosages. This is because only your medical professionals should give you specific advice about medication.

We can talk in general terms though.

I think it's great that you got a second opinion and hopefully they start working for you soon. A week is a bit too short of time to see any improvement. I would give it about 4 - 6 weeks to start to kick in. I know that seems like a long time when you are stuck in panic land. What helped me was keeping a diary of how many panic attacks I had each day. After a few weeks, although I didn't necessarily feel all that different, I could see the panic attacks decreasing.

Tiredness can be a common side effect of medication and often it goes away after some time. I would definitely discuss any side effects with your GP at your follow up visit, or sooner if it is really bothering you.

I haven't heard of the genetic testing you mention. Do you know what it is called? I'd love to find out more about it.

Kind thoughts, Jess

Hi Jess

Thanks for setting me straight about medication, didn't think I would be able to mention brands. The site I am talking about is My DNA

I got mine done  at a chemist.

I am not sure, but it looks like you can order online, but I had to get mine done through my psych.

Their website tells you which pharmacies are participating in this. It is not only for mental health, it is also for nutrition.

Regards, Sera
