Hi All,
Until the last couple of weeks I thought I had gotten on top of my OCD. Had a breakthrough will my psychologist and things were looking better after a very dark period.
Unfortunately it’s returned with force and heightened my anxiety and I can feel myself becoming overwhelmed and slipping back into a depressed state.
Has anyone had a similar experience? What has helped you get on top of your OCD?
Thanks

Hello Rupes, this illness is debilitating and some people have said that they have been able to overcome OCD, they are fortunate and I once did an online course to help with this illness and it did help reduce my obsession/compulsions, but difficult to try and stay focused all the time, but as soon as the course ended then I relaxed and back it all came.
I've been hiding it for 60 odd years and the psychologist I had been seeing always said that she'd address my OCD but never happened to.
There could be many different reasons that have suddenly sparked this to return, situations that may not have not been mentioned in therapy and anxiety can cause all of this.
I know someone on this site that has been able to overcome OCD and I'm sure will reply soon and even if you are able to control it, it's definitely hard work that needs to be concentrated on and you can quite easily relapse.
Hope to continue this.
Geoff.

Hi Rupes79,
Im sorry you are feeling this way I also suffered with OCD but I’ve now recovered!
OCD is a very cruel debilitating condition I understand I had it severely.
I did metacognitive group therapy this therapy changed my life. My therapy was an intervention into the OCD. We learned many strategies and skills in this therapy . It took perseverance and practice to master the skills but I’ve now mastered it, OCD is a vicious cycle I learned what my cycle was and what was keeping me in my cycle and then how to disengage from it.
My gp also put me on a antidepressant to help me to manage my anxiety.
I also did a guided meditation for learning to watch my thoughts I believe meditation got me over the line.
I have written two threads you may be interested in reading.

Effective treatment for OCD Metacognitive Therapy
Hang in there, I understand it’s a hard condition to deal with but there really is hope and you can recover.
You aren’t alone many people have this condition.
Please ask me anything.
