Hi
I had major anxiety attack not long ago in public and am now at home sitting in a dark wardrobe blocking out sights and sounds.
Its bad enough dealing with the anxiety attack but to have people gather round and purposly watch and make things 100 times worse realy ###### me off!
Do others find the public gather round and intensifies the anxiety or panic attack because you cant concentrate on trying to calm down because of the them?

Hi Lynne,
Sorry to hear about your panic episode. I know how it feels.
So, with many people gathering around you, why do you think that is happening? Could it be they are genuinely concerned?
Anxiety attacks can appear to some as possible heart attack or injury. On the other hand few people are mental illness savvy, they are inquisitive as it is a major event.
That's my take on it and if it happened to me I would feel similar to you but for reason of embarrassment rather than focussing on ill intent.
I hope you recover and seek medical care.

Hi tony.
If people were concerned they would ask that person if they were ok. I get people are inquisitive but that dosnt mean its not rude. Im sure im not the only one to think that.
I did seek medical care i sat in the wardrobe for a few hrs so i could have a break from everything then i went on a walk with my dog again to the same area and had a nice positive walk this time.

Hi Lynne
I understand where you are coming from as I have also experienced severe anxiety attacks (to the point of hyperventilation) and they are horrible to have. I think we have spoken before on another thread....I think
TonyWK only brought up medical care as it does work....as long as we have it frequently. When we have frequent visits to our doc the anxiety does reduce
I am not sure of the symptoms you were experiencing when you had people 'around you' . To answer your question I would be super uncomfortable if it happened to me...for sure!
my kind thoughts

Hi Lynne
So you're having a major anxiety attack in the vicinity of several people. There is a range of symptoms depending on the severity but, chest pains, hard to breathe and shaking are amongst the common signs.
How would you like onlookers to react?
I ask this because when travellers pass by a road accident, some people label them "rubber neckers" as they state as they dtive by. But in my experience, if not staring to see what happened is rare. It's normal.
So when you have these attacks, how would you like them to react?
I hope you've recovered

Hi tonywk.
Just because something is normal dosnt mean its not rude. I cant state my symptoms as they are not allowed on here. Im not shouting this in public. I was shouting it on a mental health forum to let out simple frustration and to ask others a simple question. Thats great that your happy with an audience if your having a panic or anxiety attack.

Hi Lynne
I knew we had spoken before....Thanks for assuring me that we did! Great to have you back on the forums!
You mentioned that we cant speak about our symptoms on the forums...We actually can discuss our symptoms only if we want to of course. I know that discussing specific meds is off limits though
Can I ask if your anxiety attack involved hyperventilation as that would draw attention from onlookers for sure
Either way any type of a major anxiety attack would be awful to have in public. I just dont think its rude for people to 'gather around'...its only human nature as our symptoms would be similar to a heart attack
How were the people rude? Like TonyWK....Im just trying to understand Lynne if thats okay 🙂
my kind thoughts

Hi paul.
I know its human nature i get that. But at the time when your in the middle of an attack its also human nature the majority of people would just want to be left alone without people watching. We'll have to agree on the rude thing☺.
I was hitting chest and head with fist along with screaming with mouth closed.
Cheers lynne
