Lack of Motivation

Because of my social anxiety disorder, I always procrastinate and have no motivation or have panic attacks when looking for jobs or apply for ones that I do find. I have been participating in employment mentoring sessions to help me with this, but I was wondering if you had any tips for me.

Hi Nick Elixir,

I'm so sorry to hear about what you're going through at the moment. I certainly understand how overwhelming applying for jobs can be - I've put it off many times due to anxiety.

I know that my anxiety around jobs and finding a new job is around me thinking I'm not good at anything. So I'm going to go into a new job and be bad at it and subsequently fired. Even in my current job that I've been in for 2 years with great performance reviews I still have constant anxiety around being fired.

Do you know what exactly is triggering your anxiety around this? You mentioned you have social anxiety - is it the putting yourself out there?

Hi Nick Elixir,

Sorry you are feeling this way, I understand how anxiety feels and panic attacks I too use to have them before receiving the help I needed.... I had severe anxiety OCD...... I have now recovered...

have you spoken to a gp about the way you are feeling? If you haven’t I highly recommend you do...... my gp was very caring and understanding through my mental health journey....

I did a mental health plan with my gp this gave me 10 free sessions with a phycologist I was then given many strategies to help me deal with my anxiety....

have you thought about medication for your anxiety? I was put on a antidepressant for my anxiety which really helped aswell..... it’s something you could talk to your gp about..... 😊

your not alone.... many people have this condition and there is a lot of help available from our health professionals just seek it 😊
