Hi, I have suffered from anxiety and depression for many years and am on medication. I left my job two months ago and was enjoying my time at home and had no plans to return to the workforce. My neighbour told me there was a part time job available at her organisation and suggested I apply for it. I did so and got an interview. They messed me around by offering me place on their casual pool but I could not get a direct answer about the actual job I applied for. Since this started I have been feeling anxious and unhappy and not sleeping well. I have rung my psychiatrist and have an appointment to see her next week. I think I’m not ready to return to work and think I should just withdraw my application. I would be so grateful for any advice out there if you’ve been in a similar situation. Thank you

Can I suggest waiting until you find out what the job is and seeing if it is somthing you want to do before you withdraw your application?
you can always decide it’s not for you. But who knows it may be right for you. Perhaps ask some more questions about the role.
I suffer from Anxiety too for many years now and I understand your fears around work. Work stresses me out more than anything else in life so I completely get it. But sometimes it can positively change your life so it’s worth staying open and seeing what comes your way! Good luck I am you are feeling better today!

Submitting the initial application is a success. Remember that.
Making it to the interview stage is a success. Remember that.
You are the best person to know if you are ready to proceed, if you can make the interview you will have more information to be able to make the best decision for you, now and moving forward. But talking your feelings and thoughts over with your psychiatrist is a good idea.
Some ideas;
Strategise your approach to the interview, find out where and when, with who and if you can bring a friend or support person along. If its somewhere like a coffee shop then you can just have the friend/family member travel with you and grab a table where you can see them in the back ground. After the interview, grab some pie and a coffee and de-brief with your friend.
This may help reduce the initial stress of the interview and help you review what was discussed as well.
It is possible that a part time or casual position might enable you to balance your new work environment and stresses more effectively by having a more graduated return to the workforce feel. Rather than the 'both feet first' jump of a full time job.
