Hi everyone I wanted to introduce myself. I have lived with anxiety for a really long time and I have been going really well until today and it has hit me with a vengeance surrounding going back to work after a week off. I have the flight mode kick in where I just want to quit and hide but the realisation that I can’t do that makes me feel worse. I have never been on a forum before and am looking forward to connecting.

Hello,

Welcome and thank you for reaching out to us.

Being in that state is hard to deal with so I would like to give you a couple of resources that may help.

I don't know if you are aware of vagus nerve breathing activation. It is simple technique you can use anywhere and anytime you need to. Take in a very deep breath (the kind that expands your diaphragm and belly), hold the breath for a few seconds, then breathe out as slowly as you can until your lungs are empty before taking the next breath. You should notice a difference after doing this once, the more you do it, the calmer your nervous system will feel. The purpose of this exercise is to send a signal to your nervous system, via the vagus nerve, that you are safe and it can return to a regulated state.

This is a link to a thread that community members have contributed to over time with their personal tips on how they manage anxiety. You may find other suggestions here that help with your current anxiety experience.

I hope you will feel comfortable here in this kind community of people who understand without the need to explain. I hope this information helps and please feel free to continue this conversation if you wish.

Take good care of yourself,
