Hello Pip,

Welcome here 🌞

I can totally relate to how you're feeling right now. Sometimes I feel like that multiple times a day. Yay!

It's awful isn't it. Exhausting. Crazy-making.

When I feel like this, I find it helpful to do something physical, like go for a walk/run, or dig in the garden ... something to move my energy from my mind to my body. It doesn't mean always that my brain shuts up, but it seems to help expend some of the exploding energy.

Sometimes I find cooking helps ... I'm not sure why, but I think it's because it's sort of a "grounding " activity, involves the senses. At the moment my freezer is full of things I prepared earlier!!!

What are some things you can think of that you enjoy that could move you out of that racing mind situation to something more calm and helpful?

I am happy to chat with you any time, and there are lots of threads here about strategies to help with what you're experiencing.

Oh, and because you asked: Pip, this is just your anxiety.

Hi Pip,

Welcome to the community here. Our minds are really amazing aren't they! Recently I have been reading advice that suggests when your mind is running away with itself telling you all kinds of things, it will help if you connect to your mind, thank it for the crazy thoughts and tell your mind enough is enough thank you very much!

You can practise this out loud, maybe not in the middle of a shopping centre or on a packed train as people may look at you a little interestingly.

I have used this tactic and it does help. Sounds weird, but it works. Another idea is to think of a song and sing that, our minds can not think of the words to a song and crazy thoughts at the same time.

Like birdy mentioned, distraction helps, maybe it is a physical activity, maybe it is counting back from 100 in 3's or thinking of a country for every letter of the alphabet.

Sometimes the simple things work really well!

If you think these ideas are crazy that is okay too! At least thinking about them has your mind not focusing on the thoughts that were in your head a moment ago.

Cheers to you from Dools
