How to stop feeling cursed?

Hello,
This is a very minor issue for me compared to a lot of people here, but it has been something that's bugged me for a while. I've become hesitant about certain mundane habits for fear of evoking misfortune. For example, there is a song I really like (it's a black metal song with occult themes if you really must know with evil chanting) but every time I listened to it, bad stuff would occur: my Nan getting cancer, my neighbours abusing me, my sister breaking her arm, even the Russian Invasion of Ukraine, so on and so forth. It's just one of a few habits that I tend to avoid for this reason.
Now, I prefer to be a skeptic of paranormal occurrences; I'm an agnostic yet can't help feeling something divine (but specifically demonic) force is punishing/cursing me. I am fully aware, that these events are beyond my control, and my brain has attempted to pin these habits as a scapegoat. I've been training myself to stop looking for such scapegoats as a coping mechanism...
With that said, what other tips can I use to stop feeding into my paranoia/anxiety?

Its only my humble opinion...I dont see you getting punished by any divine and /or demonic force for having any thoughts. I understand anxiety/depression as per my own background
Can I ask if your paranoia/anxiety has a detrimental effect on your ability to function on a day to day basis?

Hello GreenGuy, if you give both a positive and a negative person a half filled cup, a negative person will think, why am I given only half a cup, they see it as negative and complain about it, whereas a positive person will say thanks for the free drink.
I am deeply sorry for your Nan, but in life we can't always have everything go the way we want it to, that doesn't't mean there is anything wrong with you and with these happenings could also be attributed to also having 'intrusive thoughts'.
There can be no escape in commiting a sin, we may one more piece of chocolate that we know we shouldn't have, but what you have assigned to listening to this song may have happened anyway and because they have, I wonder whether you can actually assign these to that song.
Can I ask are you having other intrusive thoughts and if so, then a psychologist can help you overcome these thoughs.
I used to think that a particular date would always cause something to happen, but I always forgot about what did happen that was beneficial.

Hi Geoff,
I do get intrusive thoughts on the regular, my imagination being very active, even when I'm trying to sleep. It ranges from mildly distracting to disturbing, but the latter is rare. I've talked to my councilor about it a few times, and her only solution is to just accept them. Sure I suppose, trying not let them have power over me is another issue.
I've been training my brain to understand such events don't crop up by some arbitrary action of mine; after all, there is a lot of suffering in the world, so why would some external force strive to cause suffering to even the most helpless individuals (children, elderly, physically disabled people etc) for some perceived wrongdoing.
The answer is staring me in the face, but trying to rid this thought process is like pulling gum off a shoe.
Marcus Aurelius once said "what happens, happens." I always try to keep this in mind.

I'm sorry this is happening.
I understand that what you are experiencing can be distressing and it causing us to try to avoid certain things..... just' in case something bad happens'.
I used to have the same thing happen to me, Id have certain intrusive thoughts that if I touched something in particular I'd think something bad would happen to me or someone in my family.
Some people have intrusive thoughts of sin that they think is a sin and they feel like they have to confess this sin to some one.
We feel the need for re assurance and the need to confess.
This comes from wanting to decrease the feeling of our anxiety.
I was diagnosed with OCD and I have now recovered thanks to the professional help I received.
I recommend that you make an appointment with your gp, you could do a mental health plan together this will enable you to see a psychologist .
Im not a doctor and can't diagnose but please ask if you can see a psychologist that specialises in OCD.

Also green guy, please don’t try to rid yourself of these thoughts, the trick is just to let them be there and then float away with out you giving them your attention.
( it takes practice)
try not to question, analyse or seek reassurance for the thoughts.
Put your attention on something in the present moment.
Try to practice a guided meditation for learning to watch your thoughts.

Hi there,
I am sorry you are experiencing this! Is this distressing you and making your day-to-day life harder?
If it is, have you spoken to your doctor about it? Intrusive thoughts are no fun, I have them too as a part of probable OCD. but you do not have to live with them...there is help! you should see you doctor and do as Petal22 suggested.
