I'm in a foreign city getting specialised mental health help. Currently staying in a motel and travelling to hospital 3 days a week for treatment. I'm finding the solitude terrifying. Cyber talk or chat dont seem too work . Have called some help lines. And Chat l have been getting out and walking but find that very daunting any suggestions welcome.

Hi Marms

It looks like your post got missed, as sometimes happens. Sorry about that. Your current situation sounds a bit challenging. I can understand your need for connection, sometimes cyber connections aren't quite fulfilling enough to meet those needs. I don't know what type of treatment you're undergoing (you don't need to share, of course) but I wonder if there are any group therapy opportunities for you to participate in? Art therapy or self help groups? Not sure if that would meet your needs, but may be an opportunity for connection if the hospital can join you up - they may know of something.

Others may have more ideas to share. Happy to chat more though if you'd like 🙂

hi and welcome to beyond blue.

I am not sure what suggestions I can make in my initial post ... I am unsure what you can/cannot because of your situation, or allowed/not-allowed to do in the foreign country. With Covid still around these are strange times and can make thing even more difficult. So I hope you don't mind if I ask some questions...

  • Are you wanting to talk to other people in the city you are living in? Perhaps make friends?
  • Or are you wanting technology to work better so that you can talk with family when you can?

I am not sure whether you have or what sort of Internet connection you have - perhaps you can online games with other people. Games like words with friends, or chess or similar where you can play with random people who like the same games. It is one way that might help pass the time.

Have you mentioned this to the people at the place where you are getting treatment? If so, did you get any helpful suggestions from them?

Last thought ... and while not ideal, you can continue to chat here. You can talk about yourself on this thread, or you can check out the social section etc.

Tell me whether you like books or movies and what type you like? (Just to change the topic)
